In 2021 we all tried to get into the routine of our new normal. At ASRC we were excited to get back to our first in person event, since the pandemic began, at our Annual WALK For Autism in May. We launched our first Fall Fitness Challenge, which included a bike ride with our Board President Julie, golf, a hike at Sleeping Giant and ended with a 5K at the end of October. Our Littles & Elementary groups participated in the The Language of Color Art program and their first WOD & AMRAP during the annual Reppin' For Rylan Cross Fit Event. Our New Director of Recreation, Francesca, planned some great Fall activities for Teens & Adults, and organized our Holiday Food Drive. We also had some great discussions during our evening Parent Support Groups and held a, well attended, information session with State Representative, Catherine Abercrombie to highlight and discuss the needs of Connecticut families and indviduals with ASD. Training was a large part of 2021 as well. ASRC provided a comprehensive ASD/First Responder Training for the Norwalk PD, and continues partner with CABLE (Connecticut Alliance for Better Law Enforcement) to train 100's of law enforcement personnel throughout the state of CT each month. Our own certified Sexuality and Healthy Relationships instructor, Sara Taussik, conducted virtual sessions throughout the year to adults on the spectrum. This content not only included information on healthy communication between friends and romantic partners, but expanded to body autonomy, consent and sexual health.
All in all, we made it through 2021 with lots of laughs, celebrated successes and coped through some challenges too. We could not have done it without the tremendous support and encouragement from all of you!
Thank you for a great year, we can hardly wait to share what we have in store for 2022!
Wishing you a HEALTHY and HAPPY New Year!
From, The Team @ Autism Services & Resources CT
