News and Updates

Welcoming our Newest Officers

Coral Gables welcomed four new police officers at a swearing-in ceremony on Oct. 19: Nicholas Marra-Depaz, Nestor Perez Angulo, Alexander Munoz and Ryan Siblesz. Also sworn in was University of Miami Police Officer Raniel David Castillo, who brings 33 years of experience with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

The ceremony came less than a month after the city welcomed another group of officers, reflecting the continued recruitment efforts of the Police and Human Resources departments to attract qualified candidates committed to public safety and service.

Congratulations to all five officers as they begin this new chapter of service to our community.

See Something,

Say Something

The SaferWatch app, the official public notification tool of the Coral Gables Police Department, plays a key role in keeping the community informed during major events. If you see something, say something using the app.

Through SaferWatch, users can report incidents and share tips, including information related to suspicious or potential human trafficking activity and receive critical safety alerts issued by the City of Coral Gables and its public safety partners.

Designed as a proactive solution for both emergency and non-emergency situations, the app enhances awareness, speeds response times and strengthens coordination between first responders and the communities they serve.

Remember to Fall Back

On Sunday, Nov. 1, remember to set your clocks back one hour when Daylight Saving Time ends.

After you change your clocks, remember to change the batteries in your smoke detector alarms. Smoke alarms save lives.

Wet Weather

Wet weather is expected to continue over the coming days, with high tides potentially approaching or exceeding flood thresholds in some areas through Nov. 12. Together, these conditions could lead to flooding and unsafe roadways.

King tides can cause street and property flooding in low-lying areas, particularly along Coral Gables’ 42 miles of coastline and waterways. Residents should never drive through flooded areas. To help the city document king tide flooding, residents can submit photos to sustainability@coralgables.com.

Adding Beauty to the Gables

Torre Companies recently received one of the 2026 Commercial Beautification Awards for its efforts to enhance the visual character of Coral Gables.

Congratulations to the team for helping keep The City Beautiful true to its name.

Your Voice, Your Vote

Registered voters have the opportunity to cast their ballots on Tuesday, Nov. 3, for federal, state, county and municipal races and referendums at their assigned precincts.

Early voting takes place through Sunday, Nov. 1, with polling locations open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., including the Coral Gables Branch Library, 3443 Segovia St.

City Spotlight

Testing a new way to protect city records

Coral Gables will begin a 12-month pilot with Lonestar Space to test space-based storage as an additional backup for selected city information and historical records. The project will evaluate whether keeping a copy in space could help the city recover important data after a hurricane, cyberattack or other disruption.

The Innovation and Technology Department will work with the company to prepare selected records for storage aboard a system scheduled to launch in April 2027. The pilot will supplement the city’s existing backup systems, while retaining control over access to its data.

Join the City of Coral Gables for the inaugural Coral Gables Salute to Veterans event on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Giralda Plaza.

The special community gathering will honor the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans and feature a recognition ceremony, live music and family-friendly activities.

Drive up, Drop off

The next Recycling Drive-Thru event takes place on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot behind City Hall. Participants must enter through the Coral Way entrance to the City Hall parking lot. Walk-ins and bicyclists are welcome. Proof of Coral Gables residency required.
