Holiday Holidays from the City Beautiful
The City of Coral Gables wishes everyone a happy holiday filled with joy, peace, and the gift of family.

Please note that since the holidays fall during the weekend the city will observe Friday, Dec. 23, and Monday, Dec. 26 so City Hall and administrative offices will be closed. Garbage, recycling, and trash pickup will operate on a normal schedule.

Hours of operation for the Community Recreation Department for Saturday, Dec. 24, and Sunday, Dec. 25 are as follows:

  • War Memorial Youth Center: Closed on Saturday, Dec. 24, and Sunday, Dec. 25.
  • Adult Activity Center: Closed from Saturday, Dec. 24 to Monday, Dec. 26.
  • Salvadore Tennis Center and William H. Kerdyk Biltmore Tennis Center: Open Saturday, Dec. 24 from 7 a.m. to noon and closed on Sunday, Dec. 25.
  • Granada Golf Course: Open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24, and Sunday, Dec. 25.
  • Coral Gables Golf & Country Club Athletic Club: Open Saturday, Dec. 24 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on Sunday, Dec. 25.
  • LeParc Cafe: Open from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, Dec. 24. Closed Sunday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Dec. 26.

News and Updates
New commissioner Jim Cason
Congratulations to Jim Cason on being named Coral Gables City Commissioner. He previously served as mayor of the city from 2011 to 2015. Prior to his service as both mayor and commissioner, Cason was a State Department official and served as the United States Ambassador to Paraguay from 2006 to 2008.
 
He will serve until the new Commission is sworn in in April.
The Truth Is I Welcome You
Inspired by a poem written the Hank Willis Thomas poem, The Truth Is I Welcome You is a public art installation that lines the streets of downtown Coral Gables with thought bubbles messages in 22 of the most common languages. The installation invites visitors to pause their fast-paced lives and reflect on how a universal idea can be expressed in many ways.
UM ticket program


Coral Gables residents can receive up to four free tickets for select University of Miami (UM) basketball games thanks to a 20-year development agreement between the city and the University of Miami. Residents can pick up tickets at the War Memorial Youth Center, 405 University Drive, with proof of residency for the following upcoming games:

Men’s Basketball: 
  • Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 8 p.m. vs. Vermont 
 
Women’s Basketball: 
  • Sunday, Jan. 8 at 1 p.m. vs. Virginia Tech
Miracle Mile holiday window display contest winners
The city recently announced the winners of the Miracle Mile Holiday Window Display Contest. The Community Choice Award was awarded to Bliss Imprints and Gifts at 293 Miracle Mile!
 
The panel of judges including Mayor Vince Lago; Mary Snow, president and CEO of the Coral Gables Community Foundation; Mark Trowbridge, president and CEO of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, and Catalina Cohn and Ale Briceno of Inkberries selected the following winners:

Best Overall: Ella Bella Rozio, 246 Miracle Mile 
  
Most Original: Wolfe’s Wine Shoppe, 124 Miracle Mile

Million Dollar Quartet Christmas
Celebrate the holidays at Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre. Enjoy a Holiday performance by the Million Dollar Quartet on Christmas, New Year's Eve, or New Year's Day!
My Squad cookout and karaoke
My Squad is a social gathering for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism. On Dec. 28 bring your family for a cookout and s'mores, and sing starlight karaoke on the big screen. Pizza for dinner is included.
Community meeting
Join the City of Coral Gables in reimagining Biltmore Way and Andalusia Avenue from Anderson Road to Ponce de Leon Boulevard on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m. Building on public input from 2019 and 2022, city consultants will share several preliminary conceptual designs. After a brief presentation, attendees will be able to discuss the alternatives in groups to provide their suggestions and sketches.
