Call for Volunteers!
Our art association is best able to serve our members and local community when our members offer their strengths to the combined mission. Not only do many hands make light work, but many hands allow us to do and be more!

For this year, we particularly need some volunteer time from members interested in planning and executing arts programming. To express an interest or find out more, please contact us . And thank you!

"Saturated Watercolor - an Alternative Technique in Watercolor Painting

F riday February 7, join acclaimed New Hampshire watercolor painter and international teacher Doris Rice for an all-day workshop at the Kittery Art Association, 8 Coleman Ave., Kittery Point. From 10am - 4pm we will explore and work with color saturation.

Subject: FLOWERS…..Doris will bring a bouquet. You may bring along a stem of your choice posey or green to add to the bouquet (to make it larger)…or your own favorite flowers to paint. It is all about #1:SHAPE, #2: COLOR, #3: SKILL DEVELOPMENT WITH WATERCOLOR AS A MEDIUM

140 pound RAG watercolor paper, cold press 1/4 to 1/2 sheet, size your choice. Contact Doris ahead if you need a sheet. Watercolors (bring your tubes, we need the paint juicy/fresh squeezed), brushes of your own choice, paper towels, water dish, backer board that will take the wet and wet paper, sketch book for notes, pencil.

The day will involve a (short!) lunch break - Doris will bring a bowl of greens, so bring something to add to the salad, or something to share, or your own food, along with your own water to drink. Coffee and tea will be provided.

The cost will be $75 per person. To register: send pre-paid fee payable to Doris Rice, 155 Atlantic Ave, North Hampton, NH 03862, or call Doris to pay via credit card ($78). Refunds will issue only if someone else is able to take your slot, as the workshop is limited in size.

Beach Pea Baking Co. Exhibit:
Now up at Beach Pea through February - the artwork of KAA member Debra Woodward.

Recently retired from 40 years in the book industry, Debra studied painting with Amesbury, MA painter Bob Richardson, including July workshops on Monhegan Island the last two years where she began several of the paintings on exhibit here.

A longtime photographer, Debra also takes abstract painting classes with Tom Glover at Sanctuary Arts in Eliot and drawing with Susan Spellman at the Newburyport Art Association.  She is a juried member of the NH Art Association in Portsmouth, a hanging member of the Seacoast Artist Association and paints weekly with Seacoast Open Studio, both in Exeter, NH.

"Classes and painting groups are a great way to meet wonderful people and also learn from each other.  I love experimenting with new styles.  I want to continue to learn and grow and not settle on just one. I feel everyone has some art inside them!”

Beach Pea Baking Co.  is located at 53 State Road in Kittery, ME, and is open from 7:30 am to 6:00pm.

If you are interested in having your artwork displayed at this terrific little establishment right here in Kittery, contact Betsy Wish at  bjwish@gmail.com !  A few slots may still be available for 2020. Many thanks to Betsy for her work in coordinating these community exhibits!

IN SLOW MOCEAN –  A Local Lobsterman Exhibit
– Betsy Wish & Various Artists
The opening reception for “In Slow Mocean”, a multi media exhibit created by KAA member artist Betsy Wish, will take place at the KCC Morgan Gallery, on January 8, 2020 at 5:30PM.

The exhibit features local lobstermen, with photos taken of them at work from Wish’s kayak. Her photographs, in conjunction with Jim White’s film, will introduce you to the men and women who share their personal histories and insight into the lobster fishing industry.

Lobstering is the theme of works by local artists, photographers and sculptors that will be on display simultaneously in the KCC’s Morgan Gallery during this exhibition.
The film, “In Slow Mocean”, co produced by Wish (Good Eye Photo) and White (of Spruce Creek Video Productions) will be shown at the January 8th reception at 7:00PM in the KCC’s STAR Theatre. Note: As of press time, this event is full, but watch our website and facebook for details of additional possible showings in February and March!!

Work on the theme of lobstering from students at Horace Mitchell Elementary School and Shapleigh Middle School will also be on display in the hallway.
The Kittery Conservation Commission Needs an Artist!

The Kittery Conservation Commission has some funding for an "environmental sign" that would be placed at Pepperrell Cove, to replace a sign that was lost to a storm. The purpose of the sign is to be educational and beautiful, depicting the sea and shore. You may have seen other similar interpretive signs on area trails.

If interested, please email Anne Formalarie.
