Creating a 'smarter' City
The City installed the Ekin Spotter V2 as part of the Smart City Pole Pilot Project on the west median of Alhambra Circle and Ponce.

This smart pole contains safety cameras, traffic sensors, and environmental sensors that will assist emergency management in creating a safer community for residents, business owners, and visitors. Public Wi-Fi will soon be activated.

A bonus aspect to this smart pole, is its sleek design which was created specifically for Coral Gables to withstand hurricane winds in compliance with Florida codes. With no external wiring, boxes, or attachments, the City can increase its smart technologies while remaining aesthetically pleasing.
Exploring Gables: Chinese Village
Today, we introduce you to one of Coral Gables' seven unique villages: the Chinese Village. The small village is made up of just eight houses, all representative of authentic oriental architecture. The colorful hued tiled roofs, elaborate gates, and connecting walls are a few of the many characteristics that highlight the building techniques and communal living style that are prominent in the far east.

Constructed in 1926, the village was designed by famed architect Henry Killam Murphy. Murphy spent a considerable amount of time in China gaining in-depth insight of Chinese architecture and the traditions they represent. He decided to design the structures in resemblance of the Imperial buildings from China’s Ming Dynasty. Today, the Chinese village not only transports passersby back in time, but further highlights the rich international and historical influence seen throughout the City Beautiful.
Your City thanks you!
The Great American Cleanup Season has come to an end and Keep Coral Gables Beautiful wants to thank everyone that participated in a Solo Cleanup. An estimated 253 pounds of litter was collected by volunteers covering 11 miles of the City.

If you participated in a Solo Cleanup, don’t forget to submit a copy of your Clean Swell app report and a picture of your cleanup to [email protected] to enter the Most Pounds of Litter Collected contest. Winners will be announced at the end of this month.

Any students looking to receive community service hours for their Solo Cleanups, can do so by emailing a copy of their Clean Swell App report and a picture of the solo cleanup to [email protected].

Keeping Coral Gables Beautiful

Companies are encouraged to participate in organizing community cleanups in partnership with Keep Coral Gables Beautiful. Recently, Stantec employees participated in a group clean-up effort at Matheson Hammock Park. They collected 67 pounds of litter from the surrounding bike trail and waterway.

“Events like these are a great and fun way to have companies give back to the community while helping the environment and providing a team building experience,” said Matt Anderson, the City’s Senior Sustainability Analyst.
