Fiscal Year End
Call to Action!
|
As UVLT's fiscal year comes to an end today (June 30) we invite you to make a donation and support our mission. Our work would not be possible without you. Contributors receive UVLT’s newsletter, annual report, and announcements of outdoor activities and events. But the real benefit of supporting UVLT is the satisfaction of knowing that by helping to protect the Upper Valley’s natural beauty, you are shaping the landscape of the future.

In October 1987, UVLT accepted its first conservation easement, a deed that protected 28 acres of land with about a mile of frontage on the meandering Sugar River in Croydon. Thirty-five years later, the members of the partnership that owned the property have chosen to give it outright to UVLT. And so, this month, our oldest conservation project is simultaneously our newest!

Harvey and his wife Chris and son Scott created UVLT’s largest Conservation Area when they donated 1100-acre Up On the Hill to UVLT in 2016. This land, which stretches from Morningside Lane in Charlestown to Sawyers Brook in Unity, and includes acreage located in southwest Claremont, has farm fields, streams, and wetlands, and forest stands actively managed for timber production.

Black Ash Basket Weaving
July 17, 11 am - 2 pm
Unity, NH
Learn about the process and craft of basket-weaving from members of the Ko’asek (Co’wasuck) Traditional Band of the Sovereign Abenaki Nation. Native Americans and early settlers used baskets to carry or store everyday items. Basket weaving was a skill passed down from one generation to the next. Now only a handful of people possess this knowledge. Join us as local Abenaki people demonstrate this amazing skill and share their knowledge about the process. They’ll be working with ash harvested at UVLT’s nearby Up On the Hill Conservation Area. The demonstration will be ongoing from 11am-2pm and begin with a ceremonial blessing. Other activities will include log pounding, paper weaving, and black ash identification. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
