Community vaccination pop-up site

To help keep residents protected from COVID-19, the City of Coral Gables will temporarily open a vaccination site on Dec. 26 and 27 at the Coral Gables Library, 3443 Segovia St. First, second, and booster doses of Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson will be offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.
Homebound individuals 12 years of age or older can call (888) 201-5490 or email vaccinations@ilshealth.com to schedule an appointment at home to be vaccinated.

Santa's Reindeer flies above Giralda Plaza
Find Santa’s reindeer among the 42 animal constellations that are part of Kiki Smith’s Blue Night public art installation. Each constellation is an artwork on transparent blue plexiglass with holographic stars making up the actual constellation. What other animals do you see?

Run, walk to build a stronger community
The United Way and Amerant Bank host the 11th annual Amerant Bank 5K to benefit United Way Miami's work in education, financial stability, and health. The event takes place in Coral Gables in front of City Hall on Sunday, Jan. 23, from 7 to 11 a.m. Participants of all fitness levels are invited to team up for a fun-filled morning of exercise through Coral Gables' beautiful tree-lined streets.

Christmas tree recycling
Beginning Dec. 27, Coral Gables is offering free Christmas tree recycling to residents. Help preserve valuable landfill space and provide the opportunity to repurpose this valuable resource. Before recycling your real Christmas tree, please remove the tree stand, lights, ornaments, tinsel, and other decorations.

Last week the Coral Gables Police Department welcomed eight new officers to the department. Chief Ed Hudak administered the oath of office to officers (pictured left to right) Gregory DiCarlo, Christopher Pena, Stephanie LaRicci, Casey Rivera, Michael Clarke, Brian Asbury, Michael Aleman, and Carlos Alvarez.

A lifetime of leadership
The Gold Coast Section of the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA Gold Coast) recently presented several Awards of Excellence and Merit. These awards are to celebrate and acknowledge studies and projects that exemplify outstanding planning, urban design and development within Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. The Oliver Kerr Lifetime Achievement Award honors the contributions, dedication, spirit of service, professionalism, and actions of an individual who has advanced or promoted the cause of planning in our region over their career. The APA Gold Coast this year selected Julian H. Perez, AICP, CFM, ICS, NIMS the city’s director of Economic Development to receive this special award.
“Julian is a true professional and Coral Gables is fortunate to have someone of his caliber and experience lead our economic development efforts,” said City Manager Peter J. Iglesias, P.E. “This is a well-deserved recognition.”
