By Laura Kilgus, Assistant Editor
PROVIDENCE —The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has recently launched the National Eucharistic Revival, a movement to restore understanding and devotion to this great mystery in the United States.
The USCCB voted overwhelmingly at its semiannual general assembly in November 2021 to advance plans for a National Eucharistic Revival.

EDITORIAL: The Priest Links us to Jesus Christ
|
|
|
|
In Jesus Christ we find “the way, the truth, and the life.” He tells us how we receive that life: “whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.” Herein lies a dilemma. How do we receive Christ’s body and blood today? If we travel to Jerusalem, He is not there. We cannot go back in time. So, in His infinite wisdom, Christ established the priesthood to bring the possibility of eternal life to us in the present. God raises up saints to remind us of this truth.

"The Sacrament of God’s Mercy”
Questions Answered: A Rhode Catholic Interview with Rev. Ryan Connors, S.T.D.
|
|
|
|
Rhode Island Catholic recently interviewed Father Ryan Connors about the Sacrament of Penance. Father Connors serves as Professor of Moral Theology at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts. He holds a doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome.
Sometimes non-Catholics and even some Catholics don’t understand Confession. What is it and what is it for?
Confession is a great gift Jesus entrusts to His Church. The Sacrament of Penance is where we meet the mercy of God. The Lord knows our weakness and so instituted the Sacrament of Penance to forgive grave sins committed after Baptism and give us the strength to live united to Him. In Confession, we receive an infusion of God’s grace, the infused virtues, and a help that comes from nowhere else to live in God’s friendship.

CRANSTON — Compared to contemporaries like St. Faustina and Sister Lúcia of Fátima, the visions of Mother Eugenia Ravasio have attracted a somewhat more limited following. It is quite a devoted one, however, as demonstrated by the recent Mass for God, Father of All Mankind, celebrated at St. Mary’s Church in Cranston on August 7.
“We gather today with the Church throughout the world to celebrate the love of our Father,” said St. Mary’s pastor, Father Michael Sisco, in his greeting to the congregation. “And we pray that this will one day be a celebration in all the Catholic churches in the world, and that the Father will be honored, known, and loved by all men and women.”

ST. PAUL, Minn. (CNS) — Sister Kathleen Storms hopes a calendar of prayers and suggestions for action during the upcoming worldwide Season of Creation will help people “understand that simple options can make an important difference in our care for creation.”
Meatless Mondays and shopping at farmer’s markets are among actions proposed by the Care for Creation Team of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis to observe the season.
Sister Kathleen, a School Sister of Notre Dame, is a member of the team who wrote the calendar.

Misunderstanding of pregnancy centers’ mission seen as a reason for attacks

ST. PAUL, Minn. (CNS) — Angela Franey, executive director of Abria Pregnancy Resources, said recent vandalism at the organization’s St. Paul location and dozens of similar attacks on pregnancy centers around the country reflect recent anger and misunderstanding around the issue of abortion.
She also believes the damage also stems from a misunderstanding of the mission of Abria and other like centers.
Abria’s staff love and help women, she said, and provide a variety of information so they know they have options.
