While traveling home recently, for a long overdue visit to family and friends, I encountered several interesting situations – and people – that seemed to be a microcosm of the culture in which we live today.

PROVIDENCE — On Saturday, April 23, the Diocese of Providence hosted a celebration for religious living and working in the diocese who are commemorating jubilee anniversaries of their religious vows. The events surrounding this year’s celebrations have been much anticipated. While an annual event, celebrations for 2020 and 2021 were canceled due to gathering restrictions surrounding Covid. This year's jubilee Mass commemorated the jubilarians for the past three years and was part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Providence.

PROVIDENCE — Fast tempo talent, high energy vocal harmony and complete joy for the Lord — that’s what The Hillbilly Thomists brought to the stage
during their long-awaited evening performance, which showcased and celebrated traditional bluegrass, folk, Gospel and Americana music at the Providence College campus. With certainly something divine in the delivery, fans were treated to an unassuming evening of evangelization through the quick picks of a banjo.
“Music brings the Word to life in important ways,” said Father Kenneth R. Sicard, O.P., President of Providence College, calling the evening, “a performance to remember.”

PROVIDENCE —The soft strum of ukulele strings echoed in the hallways of Sacred Heart School in East Providence. As excited as they were unsure, students opened boxes, then held their new instruments in their hands — the possibilities and the sounds were sweet. Thanks to a generous donation of 100 ukuleles by McVinney Auditorium, an agency of the Diocese of Providence, students from local Catholic schools will now have the opportunity to play a beloved, and easy to learn, string instrument

By Lisa Zengarini, Vatican News
Despite the many appeals for an Easter truce from across the world, Oriental Christians in Ukraine who follow the Julian calendar celebrated their Easter weekend under the constant threat of bombs.
According to reports from local media, the Paschal Vigil was relatively calm in various regions of Ukraine, but shelling and fighting continued here and there, namely in the cities of Kharkiv, Mykolayiv, Luhansk, Donetsk and Kherson, while the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol is still under Russian siege.
