Friday of the Twenty-eighth Week in Ordinary Time
The Eucharist Inspires Us To Love
A Eucharist which does not pass over into the concrete practice of love is intrinsically fragmented. (Pope Benedict XVI)

During this time of “Eucharistic Revival” that the Bishops of the United States have asked us to observe, it’s good for us to consider the richness of the Holy Eucharist. For indeed the Eucharist is like a diamond with many facets. Hold it up to the light, and each facet reflects light and shines on its own. But taken together, they form a very valuable gem.

GREENVILLE — A week filled with prayerful events centered on the Traveling Rosary Congress heralded the inaugural event in the diocese’s celebration of the Eucharistic Revival.

The Eucharistic Revival celebration in the diocese opened on Friday, Oct. 7, with a Holy Hour and Solemn Vespers at 7 p.m. at St. Philip’s Church, where Father Phillip Dufour, assistant pastor, presided over the evening’s ceremonies.

EDITORIAL: Being “Pro-Life” Doesn’t Stop at Birth
One of the criticisms against those who oppose abortion is that such adherents largely ignore the needs of children and mothers after birth. Canards like this largely ignore widespread evidence to the contrary. Catholic social services provide daily for the needs of children and single mothers; immigrants and refugees; and the materially and spiritually poor. The Catholic Church instituted the first hospitals, orphanages, and schools in this country for the neediest Americans; and the Church continues to fulfill the mandate of Christ to care for the poor, the sick, the aged, and the imprisoned through her charitable outreach. The Church takes seriously the words of Jesus: “what you have done for the least of these, you have done for me” (Mt 25:40).

WASHINGTON (CNS) — Jeanne Mancini wants it to be clear: The national March for Life in Washington will continue even with the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, its 1973 ruling that found a right to abortion in the U.S. Constitution and legalized it nationwide.

The court overturned Roe June 24 in its ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a challenge to a Mississippi law banning abortion after 15 weeks. The court affirmed the law 6-3 but also voted 5-4 to overturn Roe as well as 1992’s Casey v. Planned Parenthood ruling, which affirmed Roe.
