UPDATE: Government Relations Advisory Council

Chairperson, Frank Jackson

PAC.jpg

The kick-off meeting for the proposed PVNAA Government Relations Advisory Council (GRAC) political action committee was held on February 4th. Currently, Alumnus Frank Jackson serves as chair of the GRAC. The PAC must establish a separate 501(c)4 due to the limitations of our present 501c3 on political activity. Please note that as of September 2022, the NAA filed a 501h Election with the IRS to do lobbying activity. The IRS ruling for 501c3 organizations does not allow lobbying activity unless you establish a separate legal entity 501c4 or a 501h election as a tag along to your existing c3 with specific financial lobbying guidelines. Until the IRS gives us a determination letter as a lobbying group, we can only lobby individually as alums. It has been long thought of and drawn out. This information has been shared at our general alumni meetings. The problem still exists that not many alumni attend the meetings. Two general NAA meetings are to be held annually. The information is also shared by Alumni Chapter Presidents to their members as part of a President’s/NAA board meeting report. Please join your local alumni chapters to stay informed of changes and events the NAA has planned. Please get involved. We have much work to do. - Lalonni Dubose Hagerman - NAA Financial Secretary

OFFICIAL NOTICE

First, "Thank You" to the courageous alumni that answered the initial call and completed the process of applying for a board position.

We still need more Alumni that are ready to contribute to the growth of this Association to step up to the plate. We ask for time, talent, and treasure, but it's not always about fundraising, most often it takes a creative approach to generate growth on all levels. If you are sincere about serving, about rolling up your sleeves to work, we need you. Ask yourself: "How can I best serve?; What can I offer that will help push this organization forward?" Can you do the work without the expectation of recognition? Can you make a viable difference? If that sounds like you, please answer this call to service. We Need You!

TRANSITION INTO NURSING PRACTICE

"The second annual Transition Into Nursing Practice: “A Blueprint for Success” event was held January 30, 2023, from 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM at the PV College of Nursing, 6436 Fannin Street, Houston, Texas. This event was co-sponsored by the PVAMU National Alumni Association (Viola Hebert), PV College of Nursing (Dr. Forrest D. Smith & Dr. Sheila Harvin), and PVAMU Department of Student Affairs (Dr. Carolyn Davis). Alumni, volunteers, and staff of the PVCON and the Department of Eleven healthcare organizations including hospitals in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center, community hospitals, UTMB Galveston, and US Army and US Navy healthcare divisions partnered with the PV sponsors, to provide an informative, interactive, and inspiring career launching event targeted for fourth and fifth semester PV nursing students along with recent graduates. Employer partners conducted interviews on-site and twenty-one students were either offered jobs, pending offers, or in the cue for positions within the participating organizations." - PVAMU
