The Superior Enterprise Center hosted its first Youth Entrepreneurship Academy this June. The Academy is a flexible, 2-week program designed to help students identify social problems, understand the root causes of systemic issues, and explore what it means to be an entrepreneur. The curriculum leverages local community entrepreneurs, video lessons, guided collaborative work, and project learning.
This summer our participants developed 3 unique ventures: Aliyah Vera is developing a website driven anti littering program to help keep neighborhoods clean, Victoria Casillas is creating a nonprofit to partner and build more homeless shelters to help transition the homeless population into affordable housing, and John Phillip Tomerlin is creating a web based program to help provide plants to urban areas in order to combat global warming and help beautify our cities. We look forward to continuing to work with our young entrepreneurs to help support these ventures and see them become reality
