SOLEMNITY OF THE ANNUNCIATION OF THE LORD
A Lesson From The Grateful Dead
Reach out your hand if your cup be empty, if your cup is full, may it be again. Let it be known there is a fountain that was not made by the hands of men.
(Ripple, The Grateful Dead)

The song “Ripple,” by the rock band The Grateful Dead, has been around for a long time, over 50 years, but I became familiar with it just recently. It’s one of the iconic songs of the Grateful Dead, a combination of a catchy, earworm-worthy tune, and intriguing, almost inscrutable lyrics.

EDITORIAL: Mary and the War in Ukraine
When the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, it marked the beginning of the end of Soviet communism in Eastern Europe. And, to the amazement of many, the collapse occurred in a relatively peaceful manner, without any major military conflict.

For many Catholics this was understood to be the fruit of the countless Masses and prayers that were offered for the “conversion of Russia” over the course of several decades, as requested by our Blessed Mother in her apparitions at Fatima in 1917.

A Prayer for the Fourth Sunday of Lent
The Fourth Sunday of Lent is the midpoint and known as Laetare Sunday. Laetare means “rejoice” and the Church expresses hope and joy in the middle of our penitential Lenten practices.

Prayer for the Fourth Sunday of Lent
Loving Creator of mine,
I feel the pace quicken, the time draw near.
I am filled with joy as I move toward Easter
and the promised reconciliation with you.
Teach me to follow the example of your Son,
to be worthy of being called one his people:
a Christian.
Help me to live each day as he did
turning hatred to love and conflict to peace.
I await the new life with eagerness, faith and a deep gratitude.

By Cole DeSantis, Rhode Island Catholic Correspondent
PROVIDENCE — On March 18 and 19, the Office of Faith Formation of the Diocese of Providence hosted its 55th annual Faith Formation Convocation.

The two-day event, entitled “Filled with Joy” (a reference to Psalm 126:3, “The LORD has done great things for us; we are filled with joy”), focused on the theme of how to evangelize more effectively. While open to all, its main audience were teachers, catechists, clergy, and others who do work with parishes.

The annual Diocese of Providence Faith Formation Convocation was held March 18-19 at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul in Providence. The event featured live keynote presentations in both English and Spanish, chanted Night Prayer, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction, exhibitors, lunch, and Holy Mass celebrated at the cathedral.
