The Superior Enterprise Center to date is providing programming and resources to the small businesses and entrepreneurs in Superior as well as creating a workforce pipeline. Currently, we have served approximately 50 entrepreneurs and owners of existing small businesses through programming and mentorship; 4 successful business ventures have been created with a survival rate of 80% which surpasses the 50% established metric. Over 200 hours of direct support have been provided to ventures through office hours and programming.
The Enterprise Center held its first Youth Entrepreneurial Academy this summer. The students ranged in age from 13 to 17 years old and created some very innovative solutions to problems they experience in our community. Their solutions included ideas around recycling, CO2 reduction, creating greater green spaces and innovative homeless shelters. The Enterprise Center is also looking to reestablish a robotics program to support entrepreneurial ideologies and build skills in the high demand field of robotics.
The Superior Enterprise Center’s role in supporting Workforce Development is also a critical one for the area. One primary area of need is certificated programs such as welding, electrical technicians, and HVAC technicians. The Enterprise Center understands this and is currently finalizing the implementation of our first welding program. We look forward to being able to provide everyone in our area with the skills and appropriate credentials to become certified welders. As we move forward, our intent is to continue building out these critical workforce programs in our area with the goal of being a one stop shop for everyone in the Copper Corridor.
