AMTA-IN STATE CONFERENCE REPORT!
Starting From Upper Left to Right then down:
Howard Nimerov's class. Gina McDonald's Class. Picture of our Sunday attendees.
Spring Conference 2019
The Indiana state conference took place in Lafayette, Indiana. The feedback was positive and we added some new things to our weekend. We had a speaker come in to entertain us during our Saturday lunch and what a hoot,,,just remember, "margaritas are medicine!" The entertainment was a fun break with all the learning we were doing. We also brought back vendors and had an ice-cream social and vendor night for Saturday night. We want your feedback on what you want available when you come to Indiana amta conferences.
AWARDS
Meritorious Award 2019
Annette Montgomery with Award Chair Nichole Fowler
MERITORIOUS AWARD Annette was chosen for her positive attitude and inspiration that has no boundaries. Her goal is to better our profession through education and sharing information. Annette worked very hard at helping the Indiana Chapter start a csmt team, managed social media accounts, newsletter/marketing, and was a board member.
" I believe in creating a community of support, encouragement, and positivity for our industry. I am grateful to receive this award, not because of the recognition, but because it demonstrates that this is the type of community Indiana Massage Therapists are leaning towards."
2019 Chapter President Award Elizabeth Cain

PRESIDENT AWARD Elizabeth became a volunteer when our previous GR Chair needed to step down from her position. Elizabeth was willing to do anything asked in a proficient speedy manner. She currently fills three positions for our chapter and is shadowing to run for Chapter President in 2020.
SPORT ACHIEVER AWARD Jennifer is currently in her 12th year contracting with Purdue Athletics. She has worked with the Men's Basketball all 12 years, and has actually worked with teams and athletes from all the other sports at Purdue at least once during that time and helps to bring in therapists to join the sport massage team.
“I may have a little different approach or attitude than some massage therapists when it comes to "sports massage" because I've come across some people who try to emulate athletic training and machines, whereas I try to bring the healing power of massage to the athletes. It's subtle, but the athletes I work with usually appreciate it.”
BUSINESS MEETING April 7, 2019

Chair Reports

Sunshine
Dawn Jones-Graham. was introduced and explained what the Sunshine Chair does for our chapter, sending out notes of praise, congratulations, and condolences to members and their families. She took this position in the fall and hopes to have members reach out when they’d like her to send notes to fellow members on behalf of our chapter. sunshine@amtaindiana.org

Sports
Heather Smith runs the tent for the Muncie Iron Man. She has a team in place and always welcomes new sports therapists. If you want to be a part of this event contact at heaz5900@aol.com
If you want to learn about sports massage check out the online classes that amta offers and also at National Convention this year

Newsletter
Claudia Helbig. Our plan in the next year is to work on making the newsletter more consistent, and easy to read. Our main goal is to make sure there is plenty of information sharing early for upcoming classes, a last minute warning and a summary with pictures afterwards. National convention will have several dedicated emails. We shouldn’t be sending out anything more than once a month. If there’s anything anyone would like to see in a newsletter or any formatting issues for anyone, please reach out and let us know. communications@amtaindiana.org

GR (4/7)
Elizabeth Cain: Thank you for your patience as the PLA is still in the process of converting our certificate into a licensure. First, we received the full grant last year for our lobbyist after completing the LLEAD Grant Application. We just finished this year’s application and will be submitting it soon. We hope to receive the same amount due to Indiana really needing the lobbyist to help push the new rules. Secondly, the new rules. If you are not reading our newsletters, please take the time to start. One topic included in the newsletters are updates of our rules and although they are not promulgated at this time, they will be required and they are the standards of who amta members are and should be following with or without a rule in place. For example you have to visually post your massage PLA license. If you don’t have it posted, it would be a good idea to be proactive with this soon-to-be rule. Another example are SOAP notes. Once required, licensed MT’s will be required to keep 6 years of your clients’ SOAP notes. Look below for a link to an amta article and example notes for your practice. If you would like a 1 day class on soap notes send me an email. gr@amtaindiana.org

Education
Terri Brandt Requested that members fill out questionnaires at the end of the weekend to help the chapter plan better events. Watch for information soon regarding 2020 education March 28-29, 2020 in Bloomington, possible pregnancy. Fall education is set for Nov 14, 15, 2020 in South Bend and we hope to bring James Waslowski, We are still working on getting an affordable lymphatic course made for massage therapists.
Who do you want to come to Indiana and what topics would you drop everything for to that live education course? Also, if you have a space that will hold 12-15 tables let us know . education@amtaindiana.org

Social Media
Blythe Potter, Blythe does a great job putting inspirational posts on our facebook page. We have 4 social media accounts; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Linked In. If you would like to help with any of these platforms please contact indiana@amtamassage.org

School Liaison
Melissa Maxwell is filling a long time vacant position and is building the Chair from the ground up. She reached out to PLA Board approved schools to see if they have any questions and asked if they understand the AMTA chapter. A few schools did not know about amta chapters so Melissa took the time to explain who AMTA is and the purpose of state chapters. Melissa also shared that massage students can have a complimentary membership while they are in school. In the past month our student number went up by 35 members. school.liaison@amtaindiana.org

Chapter Ambassador
Nichole Fowler is helpful wherever she is needed. She is our hostess for the Indiana Chapter at National Convention and is helping Melissa with school visits. She spent many hours helping the education chair for a successful state conference and she reached out to companies and put together our super swag bags. chapter.ambassador@amtaindiana.org

The new state pin was revealed. State conference attendees received an old pin and a new one. The new pins will be given out at the member breakfast before National Convention Opening Ceremony.

President's Message
Hello AMTA Indiana! I hope to see you at convention this year. Do one day or all. Take advantage of the amazing education you can get at a discounted price because YOU are AMTA!
This is my last year as President, I hope to hear from you so we can keep moving and growing and making Indiana an amazing member association that therapists want to be part of.
We are a family of like minded therapists who want the best for our profession.
Now is a perfect time to take a turn at volunteering.Remember if you want to run for a board position you need to be a volunteer first. Become a volunteer and take the leadership training this October so you have a better understanding at what the chapter does.
AMTA National Convention
There will be an upcoming email with the full schedule options and discussing convention more in depth soon!

Until then, there are a couple of quick things we'd like to reach out about:

  • Remember that the Dates are October 24-26th! In Indianapolis, IN!
  • Registration is open and the longer you wait, the less space that will be available in any classes you may may be interested in.
There is going to be a complimentary breakfast for Indiana Chapter Members before the Opening Ceremony, and that is where pins will be given out. This will be an rsvp event, if you know you will be there, sign up now! Spaces are limited.

SUPPORT THE MASSAGE THERAPY FOUNDATION AT THE MONSTER MASH COSTUME PARTY THE NIGHT BEFORE CONVENTION BEGINS!
