Monthly News & Updates

September 2022 | Issue 2

From the Co-Presidents

CPWC members,

Welcome to Chattahoochee Plantation Women’s Club 53rd year! Our theme this year is Re-new. Yes, the hyphen is not grammatically correct, but it’s there for a reason, as you’ll see. When choosing a theme for this year, we felt the need for a little re-set after a few years of ups and down. Don’t we all want things to go back to “normal”? But again…maybe we can take our experiences from these last few years and…

Re-new friendships with people we’ve drifted away from. Make a list of people you don’t see as much of as you used to and re-engage. Go through your phone contacts and see who is in there that you haven’t talked to in forever and re-fresh your friendship.

Re-ignite a passion. If you are looking for a new passion, look to our interest groups. We have something for everyone: reading, hiking, running, bridge, yoga…the list goes on. Our interest groups spend a lot of time on their content to introduce you to something that will re-juvenate you or teach you something new all while re-connecting or meeting someone new.

Re-imagine how you want your life to look like. COVID did one thing, it made some of us change habits, priorities and expectations. By now, I hope there have been some positive changes (more travel, more family dinners, less running kids to a zillion activities?) and that those changes, and the changes to come will be your re-ward.

We hope you are planning on joining us for the Opening Luncheon on Friday, September 9, starting at 10:30 am at Atlanta Country Club. We will have a fashion show featuring Willow Park Boutique and models from our own Interest Group Chairs.

Here’s to a great year to Re-new!

Annual New Neighbor Gathering 2022

The 2022 New Neighbor Welcome, held Sunday August 22nd, captured the spirit of our neighborhood as we welcomed those who have recently chosen to call this area “home”.

The McCarthy home was filled with a record number of new neighbors!  Our new neighbors have expressed interests ranging from playgroup to evening book club and many will be attending the upcoming luncheon.

Thank you to all of the volunteers in the CPWC who provided lists, delivered bags, helped set up the event, made the best cheese coins on earth (**shout out to Melissa Nichol) and made the night so very special!

This event remains a solid reminder of how fortunate we are to have the outreach of the CPWC to connect and engage the community.

To all of our new neighbors: Welcome home!

End of School Year Kona Ice Party, May 24, 330 - 430pm.

Family Activities is looking for someone to manage the Yule Log event on December 3.

Co Chair Belinda Vogel will help with all the planning. We need someone to be in charge the day of the event. Contact her at bel_v@yahoo.com.

Gardening Interest Group

As we make plans for the new CPWC year, members of the garden interest group may want to add to the list of possible outings and activities by contacting Karin at karinguzy@gmail.com.

Peachtree State Orchids in Woodstock would welcome a group of visitors. This would be a Wednesday or Saturday outing to match their schedule of availability, in Fall or Spring when most of their orchids are in bloom. Perhaps a November date? I am calling it a tour but it is also a shopping trip!

Janet Francesconi has suggested that we mark our calendars for next year's Hydrangea Tour, June 10, 2023. Entry to the tour is your membership in the American Hydrangea Society which may encourage you to attend their three annual meetings, held in the evening at McElreath Hall, Atlanta History Center.

Another interesting trip is to west Cobb where Kennesaw Mountain Daylily Gardens welcome visitors with appointments in June or July.

Have you been to the Atlanta Botanical Garden in Gainesville? The gardens there are open Tuesday through Sunday and advanced timed-tickets are required, although this may change. This carpooling trip would be best planned for early spring while temperatures are reasonable.

In between field trips, we can plan to visit gardens in the neighborhood.

Offer your feedback so we can plan for the next activities year.

Send your ideas to Karin along with your ideas for our next year's activities.
