From the Co-Presidents

Happy August!

Hello everyone and welcome back to another year of fun, friendship and food with CPWC! For some of us it’s still summer and we are on grand vacations. For others, school started last week and we are knee deep in syllabi, school forms and mandatory meetings. Regardless of where you are in life, we are excited to kick off another year of CPWC.

I’m thrilled to welcome all of our new and returning board members, but especially Susan Fulkerson, who has found time in her incredibly busy schedule to sign on to be my co-president. It’s going to be awesome working together.

We are excited to host our newcomer’s event August 21 and our kick off luncheon at ACC on September 9. You can still register for the luncheon and we encourage you to! Better yet, bring a friend who has not joined yet! Let her see how much fun we have.

I hope everyone had a great summer. Mine flew way too fast so I’m envious of you still out there having a ball. But let’s never forget to check in on our neighbors and friends. I know that some people have had real struggles and I want to remind people that we are a community who support each other.

I look forward to seeing you all soon. If you have any questions about all the groups we have that you can join, just find us. Welcome back to the party!

Your CPWC Co-Presidents,

Lesli and Susan

Newcomers Welcome Party August 21

Our New Neighbor Hospitality Committee is planning to celebrate our newest residents at the annual Newcomers Welcome Party on Sunday, August 21, 5-7 pm at the home of Barry and Jean Ann McCarthy, 410 Cherry Hill Dr. This is a casual, couples event. Cocktails and appetizers will be served.

On behalf of the CPWC, we will provide all identified new neighbors (typically 30-40) with a welcome bag which will include an invitation to the August event and information on the CPCA. Each bag will include a small gift. We always like to show support for local businesses, so please let us know of any coupons or local goodies we can incorporate to expand the sense of community.

Now, we just need your help in identifying our newest neighbors (those who have moved to the area within the last 12 months). Please send us any names and address of those who have recently chosen our neighborhood to call home. On behalf of the CPWC Welcome Wagon, thank you for your help!

Family Activities

Family Activities is looking for someone to manage the Yule Log event on December 3.

Co Chair Belinda Vogel will help with all the planning. We need someone to be in charge the day of the event. Contact her at bel_v@yahoo.com.

Gardening Interest Group

As we make plans for the new CPWC year, members of the garden interest group may want to add to the list of possible outings and activities by contacting Karin at karinguzy@gmail.com.

Peachtree State Orchids in Woodstock would welcome a group of visitors. This would be a Wednesday or Saturday outing to match their schedule of availability, in Fall or Spring when most of their orchids are in bloom. Perhaps a November date? I am calling it a tour but it is also a shopping trip!

Janet Francesconi has suggested that we mark our calendars for next year's Hydrangea Tour, June 10, 2023. Entry to the tour is your membership in the American Hydrangea Society which may encourage you to attend their three annual meetings, held in the evening at McElreath Hall, Atlanta History Center.

Another interesting trip is to west Cobb where Kennesaw Mountain Daylily Gardens welcome visitors with appointments in June or July.

Have you been to the Atlanta Botanical Garden in Gainesville? The gardens there are open Tuesday through Sunday and advanced timed-tickets are required, although this may change. This carpooling trip would be best planned for early spring while temperatures are reasonable.

In between field trips, we can plan to visit gardens in the neighborhood.

Offer your feedback so we can plan for the next activities year.

Send your ideas to Karin along with your ideas for our next year's activities.
