Monthly News & Updates

January 2023 | Issue 6

From the Co-Presidents

Happy New Year!

We hope everyone had a great holiday and that you were able to get your bucket filled whether it be by seeing family and/or friends, having some peace and quiet or going to a party or two.

The holidays can be complicated and my family certainly hit some road bumps (blown transmission in my daughters car was not on my wish list) but we were able to see both sides of the family for the first time in 3 years. I am grateful for great healthcare for my family and friends, I’m grateful for somewhat new friends who stepped in to help watch my kennel cough dog, and I’m grateful I had my kids all home for more than a weekend. I know we all have so many blessings.

So here we are, in a new year! I don’t usually prescribe to New Year’s resolutions. I just try to keep up with all the “old” things that keep me grounded and happy…lunch with friends, dinners with friends and at the top of my list is the Women’s Club events. I’ve met so many new people and caught up with old friends at First Fridays and Daytime Programs. I hope to add in at least one of the book clubs and Savvy Women this year to see new and familiar faces.

Wait, I just changed my mind. I would like to have a collective New Year’s Resolution for our woman’s group. I challenge you all to invite at least one new guest to an event this month. It could be someone who already belongs to the club but doesn’t come to events for whatever reason. Or it could be a new neighbor who has no idea we exist. Either way, let’s shake up January!

Susan and I are so grateful for all of you. Here’s to a BountiFUL 2023!

Run/Walk 5K

Hello Walkers!

Remember we walk the first and third Monday of each month.

Walking/5K interest group will only walk once this month! (Of course, you can reach out via the GroupMe app and find someone to take a walk with anytime.) We will walk the boardwalk along the river off of Little Willeo Monday, January 16 at 1:00PM. You can meet us at the start of the boardwalk or plan to carpool. It's a small parking lot at the boardwalk. Meet in the Atlanta Country Club parking lot at 12:30 to catch a ride.

This month's 5K will be the Polar Bear Run at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church. This is a fun one and right in our community! Check out the link. Susan Fulkerson will be the contact person for this event. Let her know if you will be participating.

You do not have to run the 5Ks! Most of us walk!

Contact Jean for more info.

Gardening Interest Group

Garden Group

Our trip to Peach State Orchids was cancelled due to low response, probably due to the proximity to holiday travel. Members who still have an interest are welcome to join the Sope Creek Garden Club when they visit the orchid wholesaler on January 4 at 1030 AM. Parking at Peach State is limited so carpooling will be necessary. Contact Karin Guzy , 678-860-4445, karinguzy@gmail.com and she will coordinate any CPWC members who want to join the group.

It is a little counter intuitive, but many orchids start to bloom in December and January, with the phalaeanopsis (butterfly) orchids frequently holding their blooms for months. This means that the greenhouses will be full of blooms in January. Orchids will be available for sale. The owner will provide a tour and cover the basics regarding their care.
