December 2024 | Issue 5

From the Co-Presidents

Cropped Logo

Dear CPWC Members,

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are looking forward to all the special activities and events with family and friends this holiday season.

Our club has some special events in December that we hope you will attend: gift/cookie exchange (Dec 13) and Yule Log with Santa (Dec 15). You can also support our charity, Down 7 Up 8, at the Kendra Scott store at the Avenue East Cobb location on December 15 from 3:30-5:30. Please read all about these events in this newsletter and register to attend.

We would like to welcome a new member to CPWC this year, Ginny Haddock, who graciously opened her home to us for the November daytime program, Charcuterie with Friends. Mimi Attar of Charcuterie by Mi dazzled us with her beautiful charcuterie boards which we enjoyed for lunch.

Thank you Pat Iaffaldano for hosting the evening program “Navigating Retirement.” Allison Wray of Grow Counseling led a lively and informative discussion on how to plan for and adapt to this major life transition.

We are very grateful for the friendships we have made and strengthened this year through CPWC. We are looking forward to your continued support of and participation in our programs and interest groups this coming year.

Wishing you a fabulous holiday season!

Your CPWC Co-Presidents,

Martha Altieri & Sterling Lanken

Charity Corner

SAVE THE DATE(S)-Please mark your calendars for these upcoming CPWC charitable events. More specific details will be forthcoming:

December 15, 2024- Kendra Scott Charity Shopping Event 3:30-5:30 at the Avenue East Cobb location, 4475 Roswell Rd Suite 940, Marietta, GA 30062. 20% of the sales, when the customer mentions our club, will be donated to our charity Down 7 Up 8. There will also be an event-specific online code that can be used when shopping Kendra Scott online for two days surrounding the event date. We would love to have good representation from our members at this event so please volunteer to attend for 30 minutes during the two-hour window. Contact me to schedule a shift.

February 7, 2025- CPWC “Share the Love” Charity Party – In place of our regular February First Friday event, we will hold our annual charity fundraising event at the home of one of our members. We are calling this "Share the Love" with a Valentines theme. This will be a casual event very much in line with our First Friday evenings and will include some fun raffle items, great food and drink, and the wonderful company of our membership and their guests.

The event will be from 7 to 9 pm. Food will be catered and staff will be there to serve the food and drink. Volunteers will handle all set-up and clean-up. We just need a home with space to hold about 60 to 75 people and a neighborhood that can accommodate parking. Please contact me if you are willing to host this event in your home.

Thanks,

Family Activities

On Sunday, December 15, the CPWC will hold its annual Yule Log bonfire event at McFarlane Park from 3:30-5:00. There will be games, prizes, hot cocoa, cookies, s’mores, peppermint candy canes, and Santa Claus arriving at 4:00 to read a story to the kids and for photographs. Why wait in line at the mall and pay lots of money for a photo with Santa when you can come to the Yule Log and get your photo for free? It is a great photo op for you and your family.  Come at 3:30 and let the kids get their faces painted and have some hot cocoa, after they play games and have S’Mores. There will also be holiday singing around the bonfire.

It is a great family tradition to ring in the holidays at the McFarlane Park Yule Log Event. This event is co-hosted and supported by the Chattahoochee Plantation Women’s Club and CPCA.  To volunteer for a small job, provide hot cocoa, donate cookies, or help with games click here to sign up to help.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection at 4814 Paper Mill Road.

Thank you,

Janie Kissling

Bible Study Group

We meet every Thursday at 10:00 am at the Atlanta Country Club. During December we have three Thursdays to teach "Christmas, The Rest of the Story", giving account of God's masterful plan to redeem mankind and the wonder of the Savior's birth. In "The Rest of the Story" you will hear things you have never heard before: the significance of the manger and swaddling clothes; who were the shepherds and what did they know?; what is "a multitude of the Heavenly Host"?; Where is Migdal Eder where lambs are born? Jesus' birth is truly the greatest story on earth...the Greatest Story ever told!

We would love to have you join us.

RSVP by emailing me at lettienixon@cfaith.com.

YARD OF THE MONTH - December

“Yard of the Month” for December goes to

Kevin & Lindsay Nolan at 110 Blackland Court, Marietta 30067

The yard is decorated by Lights Over Atlanta. The landscape design was done by Elements Landscape, David Owen. A combination of seasonal grasses, evergreens, and stonework, accented with color in pots and flower beds. Take a drive-by...it's worth the look!

McFarlane Nature Park

The board members who watch over McFarlane are offering a Challenge Grant through the end of December which will double every contribution received. Donations will go toward growing the McFarlane Future Fund which has reached $60,000 of our goal of $100,000. These are funds that will never be spent. Only a portion of the interest and growth will go toward the operating expenses of the park in the future, making the park more self-sufficient.
