Multi-Plex Arena Expansion to begin in 2020 and includes new Library
We are excited to announce that Council passed a resolution to move the expansion of the Multi-Plex Arena forward and includes the Library!

New Speed Limit in Blackfalds
Keeping our residents safe is a priority, and therefore as of June 15, the new speed limit is 40 km/h in various neighbourhoods around town. Read here what areas are affected.

Changes to Bylaw 1232.19 include speed limits and playground zones, definitions and penalties. During this transition phase, our peace officers will continue to educate the public and raise awareness ahead of issuing tickets.

Nominate Your Best Business for the 2019 Business of the Year Awards

There has been an increasing popularity for people wanting to raise hens in an urban environment in many communities, including those within our region.

Beware the Emerald Ash Borer, an Invasive Species Marching across Canada
Conservationists want to keep the invasive pest out of Alberta for as long as possible, said Jon Sweeney, a forest research scientist with Natural Resources Canada. 
"Once it gets to a place, about 10 years later, more than 99 per cent of the ash in that area have been killed by it," Sweeney said.

Notice to Residents
Road Closure
Road closure for the repaving of Waghorn Street will begin on July 10 and will change access to the Civic Cultural Centre, FCSS and Tayles Water Spray Park.

The project will be worked on in phases and will take approximately 4 weeks to complete depending on the weather. Thank you for your patience .

Homeowner Property Maintenance
Our Parks staff would like to remind homeowners that grass that is 6" outside your fence and is still inside the property line is the owner's responsibility to trim. If you border a public space, the Town will cut up to 12”-18” away from your fence (see Bylaw 1220/18 ) to ensure no damage to your property or fence is incurred.

Did you know?
A little piece of Blackfalds History
The name of Blackfalds was adopted in 1904 after its incorporation. Having been previously known as Waghorn, the community was named after the CP Rail engineer's home area in Scotland that was known for its black "faulds" of sheep.
Town Council Schedule
Regular Council meetings (RCC) are held on the second and fourth Tuesday every month in Council Chambers at the Civic Centre at 5018 Waghorn St.

Standing Committee meetings (SCC) are held the third Monday each month.
Meeting agendas and schedule can be viewed at blackfalds.com/councilmeetings .

The next scheduled dates and times are:
SCC: Monday, July 15 at 7:00 p.m.
RCC: Tuesday, July 23 at 7:00 p.m.
RCC: Tuesday, August 13 at 7:00 p.m.
