Preparing for Hurricane Season:

It’s crucial to take necessary precautions to ensure your safety and minimize damage to your property.

  • Anticipate Street Flooding: During high-intensity rains, there may be street ponding or flooding if the storm drains are overwhelmed and backed up. Don’t panic if you see water accumulating on the roads. As the rainfall decreases, the storm sewers will catch up, and any water in the streets will recede. This process may take some time, so patience is key.
  • Keep Cars Off the Streets: To avoid damage to your vehicles and to ensure emergency services can navigate the streets, please keep cars off the roads. Park your vehicles in garages or driveways and away from areas prone to flooding.
  • Secure Loose Items: Strong winds and heavy rain can turn loose items into dangerous projectiles. Make sure to bring in garbage cans, any loose furniture, or items outside that may grow wings in the storm. Securing these items not only protects your property but also helps keep your neighbors safe.
  • Stay Informed: Keep an eye on weather updates and emergency notifications. Local authorities will provide the latest information on the storm’s progress and any additional precautions you should take.
  • Create an Emergency Kit: Ensure you have an emergency kit ready with essentials such as water, non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and important documents. Being prepared can make a significant difference during and after the storm.
  • Follow Local Guidance: Adhere to any evacuation orders or other instructions from local authorities. They have the most accurate and up-to-date information to keep you safe.

By taking these steps, we can help each other stay safe and minimize the impact of the hurricanes. Stay indoors, stay informed, and take care of yourselves and your loved ones.

Maintenance Updates

Lake Management:

The crew collected trash and debris from all lakes and shorelines on the Canyon Lakes side.

Entry Water Features: The crew added chlorine shock to each feature and cleared all the debris baskets. The North water feature is currently off pending repair of a crack on one of the pumps.

Villages III: The lights and timers are functional and accurate. The fountain is running and flowing properly. The water level is normal, and the outfall was clear of debris.

Switchback: All four fountains are running and flowing properly. We tightened the brackets for a few of the light sets after we noticed the lights had been turned downward. All lights and timers are functional and accurate. The outfall was clear of blockages, and the water level is normal.

Willow Ranch: The lights and timers are functional and accurate. Both fountains are running and flowing properly. The water level is normal, and the outfall was cleared of debris.

Nautical Point (Lake 4): The fountain is running and flowing properly. The lights and timers are accurate. The water level is normal.

Mariner's Bay: Upon arrival, the North fountain was not running. After conducting our field diagnostic tests, we determined the motor is in need of repair. We brought the fountain back to our shop for offsite maintenance. The South fountain is running and flowing properly. The lights and timers are functional and accurate. The crew also noticed the metal grate over the outlet where water flows from Switchback to Mariner's Bay had fallen off. We were able to move it back into the correct position, and I attached photos of this issue above.

Nautical Point (Lake 5): The fountain is running properly. The lights and timers are functional and accurate. The water level is normal.

Additionally, the back fountain in Harmony Springs is still down due to a dismantled CenterPoint meter and no incoming power. All other fountains on the Stone Gate side of the community were running while we drove through today.

Gate Management:

Monday -

Canyon green gates were open. Flipped toggle switch and gates were closed and operating properly.

Guard house visitor arm came off. Wind had it swaying back and forth. Went and got bigger bolts and nuts… placed them on the pole and so far so good. Looking for plastic replacements before an incident happens and messed up the motor.

Checked Blevins card reader. It continuously loses power on random days. Power cycled it and it is currently operational.

Splash Pad card readers weren’t powered on. Checked the CAP2D’s and only 1/3 were operational. Traced the problem back to the power source. Switched it out with a power source that was given to me. All access points are now operational.

Tuesday:

7&8’s gate was opened. The transceiver wasn’t reading EZ Tags. Power cycled the call box and the reader worked. Gate is operational.

Willow fairway cameras were offline. I power cycled all cameras thru Eagle eye. Cameras are back online.

Heron Egret Birds: Tips for Preventative Maintenance

Hundreds of Egrets begin migrating around this time of year in search of a favorable nesting area to form their rookery. History shows that these birds appear to choose the same location each year. When establishing a nest, Egrets are drawn to large, well-established trees, with dense networks of limbs conducive for protection when nesting.

First and foremost, to respect and be aware of: Egrets are federally protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918. What does this mean? By law, none of these birds can be killed, or their nests disturbed once they have eggs or young. It is unlawful to do anything to these birds once an egg is in the nest.

Residents can purchase items to help discourage nesting, such as air horns, bright streamers to hang in trees, water nozzles and "scare eye balloons," which are common tools used to scare away birds.
