Gates Update

The following gates: Switchback, Island Shores, Keystone Fairway, Lost Mills, and Mallory Bridge were damaged during the last storm and have remained opened while repairs are being performed. Most recently this week, the modem for the gate at Ruby Canyon went down and is in the process of being repaired. Section 7&8 exit gate was hit and damaged by a vehicle. Danbury Bridge is also currently down. It is in the process of getting repaired. At this time, the Management Team does not have an ETA on when the repairs will be completed so that the gates can be closed again. Progress updates will be posted in the weekly newsletter as they become available.

Maintenance Updates

  • Fixed the tennis court screen at the splash pad
  • Power washed and cleaned the duck poop off of Switchback and the bridge, the brick and the sidewalk included
  • Picked up solicitor signs around the community
  • Cleaned the dirt off the deck of the splash pad
  • Worked on toilet at the guard tower near the Rec Center
  • Entry Water Features: The crew cleaned all the debris baskets and added chlorine shock to each feature. Upon arrival, the South water feature was not running. We determined the cause is a loss of incoming power. We are unable to restore incoming power, so this issue will have to be resolved by an energy provider. The North water feature's leak has been repaired and is running properly.
  • Island Shores (Lake 1): The crew collected trash from the lake and shoreline. The lights and timers are functional and accurate. The fountain is running and flowing properly. We treated for algae and submerged vegetation. The well was tested, and the meter reading was collected. The water level is normal.
  • Island Shores (Lake 2): The crew collected trash. The lights and timers are functional and accurate. The fountain is running and flowing properly. We treated for submerged vegetation throughout the lake. The water level is normal. The outfall is clear of blockages.
  • Bluff Springs (Lake 3): We collected trash and debris from the lake and shoreline. There is currently no light set while we wait for all the new parts to be delivered for the approved LED light replacement. The timers are accurate, and the fountain is running properly. The water level is about four inches low. We recorded the well meter reading.
  • Bluff Springs (Lake 4): We collected trash and debris from the lake and shoreline. The lights and timers are functional and accurate. The fountain is running and flowing properly. The water level is about three inches low. The outfall is clear of blockages.
  • Harmony Springs: The back fountain has no incoming power because the CenterPoint meter has been dismantled. Your energy provider will need to resolve this issue before we can turn the fountain back on. The other fountain is running and flowing properly. The lights and timers are functional and accurate. The crew treated for submerged algae. We recorded the well meter reading. The outfall is clear of debris. Trash was collected from the lake and shoreline.
  • Danbury Bridge: We collected trash and debris from the lake and shoreline. The lights and timers are all functional and accurate. We investigated the cause of the sound coming from fountain #1 and found debris clogging the net around the motor. We were able to resolve the issue by cleaning and unclogging the fountain. The other two fountains are running and flowing properly. The crew treated for algae along the bulkhead. The outfall was cleared of debris, and the water level is normal. No other issues were detected while on site.

Heron Egret Birds: Tips for Preventative Maintenance

Hundreds of Egrets begin migrating around this time of year in search of a favorable nesting area to form their rookery. History shows that these birds appear to choose the same location each year. When establishing a nest, Egrets are drawn to large, well-established trees, with dense networks of limbs conducive for protection when nesting.

First and foremost, to respect and be aware of: Egrets are federally protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918. What does this mean? By law, none of these birds can be killed, or their nests disturbed once they have eggs or young. It is unlawful to do anything to these birds once an egg is in the nest.

Residents can purchase items to help discourage nesting, such as air horns, bright streamers to hang in trees, water nozzles and "scare eye balloons," which are common tools used to scare away birds.
