The Vagus nerve and our Fight or Flight response
________________________________________
In our lives, we often find ourselves caught between two powerful forces within our nervous system. One is the Sympathetic branch, our body's natural response to stress and danger, also known as the "Fight or Flight" mode.
It primes us for action, diverts energy to our muscles, and floods our system with adrenaline. It's crucial for survival but can be taxing when constantly activated.
Then there's the Parasympathetic branch, transmitted via the Vagus nerve, which acts like a soothing balm. It helps us slow down, facilitating energy flow back to our digestive system, reducing our heart rate and blood pressure, and preparing us for rest and rejuvenation.
In today’s fast-paced world, many of us remain trapped in the Sympathetic mode, leading to digestive issues, increased heart rate, hypertension, and chronic muscle tension—signs of being "Stuck in Fight or Flight."
Here is a relaxation video that I put together for you to help manage your vagus nerve and your stress response.
