News for Faculty and Staff from Human Resources
|
|
Dear Faculty and Staff,
The ComPro department is happy to announce that Peter Vonderheide and Elaine Guthrie are now Co-Directors of the Master’s in Computer Science program, overseeing the administrative areas. Peter has overseen the Career Center for many years, which has grown to be responsible for many areas that are required to take care of our students that are in the job search or CPT phase. He is responsible to keep track of the very complicated budget and keep it updated many times per year. Peter and Elaine have also worked together for years in making decisions about individual students and policies that pertain to students in the CPT phase. This move will allow them to help each other more in areas that overlap, and to answer questions or concerns if one or the other is not available. The University owes a great debt of gratitude for both these hardworking managers for creating, maintaining and continually expanding this most successful program.

YOGA
Five-Day Mini-Course
Starting Every Monday
and Open Daily Practice
3:30 pm Mon-Fri
Argiro Dance Studio
Free for MUM Students, Staff, and Faculty
With Maharishi Yoga Asana Instructors Simon and Claudia Rodriguez
Department of Development of Consciousness
|
|
|
All staff are invited to participate in the
free ongoing Maharishi Yoga Asana sessions in the Argiro Dance Studio at 3:30 pm Monday through Friday
. You are welcome to join any day but the Monday and Tuesday sessions tend to be slower-paced as there is more instruction involved. The remaining days the practice flows with less instruction.
If your schedule doesn't allow you to attend at 3:30 pm, then come a little later and join us anyway. If you can make it by 4 pm you would still have half an hour to do a complete and satisfying set of asana. Many people report that doing asanas in a group setting makes their experience more settled and enjoyable.
"Asana is that in which one has unbounded awareness, with ease and without fatigue."

New Book Explores Secret of World-Class Performers
|
What Do the Brains of World-Class Performers have in Common?
The brains of world-class performers are different from the brains of average performers. No surprise there. But what is surprising is that regardless of whether these top performers are athletes, musicians, or CEOs, their brains share one feature that makes them stand out: More integrated functioning. A world-class brain works in a more coherent, relaxed, wakeful, and efficient way.
A new book tells the story of these top performers and offers an easy-to-read introduction to the research showing that their brain function is different. This short book also describes other features that these top performers have in common, such as intensely happy and fulfilling peak experiences and a greater moral sense. Readers also learn how they, too, can effortlessly develop greater brain integration.

Nine Days of Mother Divine and the Birth of Ram
|
The next 11-day Maharishi National Yagya
SM
performance for the U.S. will begin on the evening of April 5, and coincide with Vasant Navaratri, the Spring Nine Days of Mother Divine. The Yagya will continue through Ram Navami, celebrating the birth of Ram on April 14.
Mother Divine represents the unbounded creativity and supreme nourishing quality of Nature, while Ram represents infinite organizing power. Together, these fundamental aspects of Nature bring support and success to every endeavor and every field of life.
Our Maharishi Jyotish
SM
Pandits emphasize that this is one of the most powerful periods in the Vedic calendar to sponsor a Yagya—when the Laws of Nature are liveliest for fulfillment of desires in all areas of life: success and prosperity, health and longevity, intelligence and enlightenment, and relief from fear.
The Sankalpa (intention) of the Yagya will be:
Increasing peace, positivity, and spiritual awakening for the United States and its people.

WHAT was it all about?
The
Transcendental Meditation Center, Inc. (TMC), founded 50 years ago to bring inner peace and enlightenment into communities of color. Through TMC, people in these communities throughout the US and internationally were introduced to the TM® technique. TMC was the first organization teaching the TM program to proudly carry the name of His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's meditation technique. In more recent years Maharishi Foundation℠ requested permission and now uses the incorporated name, TMC, for TM Centers that teach the Transcendental Meditation® technique. In early 2018 the Center for Health and Wellness of the David Lynch Foundation℠ opened its doors with the name TMC (The Meditation Center @ THEARC). Having the same focus as the original TMC, Inc, TMC@THEARC serves the under-resourced African American population in southeast Washington D.C., helping to reduce the effects of toxic stress and improve the quality of life in this community.

Maharishi's Weekly India Press Conference: Navaratri
by Surendra Panwar
Age of Enlightenment News Service
New Delhi, India
15 October 2004
Maharishi said that all devotees can awaken the nine qualities explained by Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita. The lord has defined these qualities as earth, water, fire, air, sky, mind, intellect and ego. The ninth quality is Transcendental Consciousness.
In fact, the devotees awaken the eight qualities until Ashtami (the eighth day), and all these qualities merge with the Transcendental Consciousness on the ninth day, and finally, the Transcendental Consciousness awakens the total knowledge and infinite dynamism on the tenth day of Vijaya Dashami, he said.
The creator of the Science of Consciousness said that it is a scientific concept of awakening the Shivatva, or the domain of total silence, which then transforms into total dynamism. By reciting the Nava Durga hymns (glorification of Goddess Durga) and performing Anushthanas, the devotees can awaken all the Devis and Devatas (supreme creative impulses) defined in Veda and Vedic Literature in their physiology.
On this auspicious occasion, Maharishi also called for the opening of Vedic schools to impart the Vedic Wisdom, consciousness based education, to the children. He said that he would help people or organizations in their endeavour to set up such schools, so that the darkness could be removed from society.

March 19, 2019 Source: Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) - According to filmmaker David Lynch, all it takes are 70 ideas to make a feature film.
The visionary mind behind "Blue Velvet," ''Mulholland Drive" and "Twin Peaks" is imparting this and other wisdom, like never giving up final cut, in a new MasterClass on creativity and filmmaking that's available now for enrollment online. Lynch joins an esteemed lot of MasterClass instructors from Martin Scorsese to Spike Lee.
Prices range from $90 for one class to $180 for unlimited access.
In his class, Lynch talks about the value of daydreaming for catching ideas. He also extols the importance of studying classic films and why he doesn't like rules.
Lynch says he was drawn to the idea that a MasterClass could make a difference to new filmmakers.

A Guide to Transcendental Meditation: What It Is and How It Works
Whether at home, school, or the office, transcendental meditation can help you stay centered.

Transcendental meditation has been in the news a lot lately.
A recent study
in the Journal for Nurses in Professional Development notes that transcendental meditation helped a group of nurses fight compassion fatigue and improve resilience after four months of practice. Another recent study in
Psychological Reports
found that practicing transcendental meditation twice a day was an effective coping mechanism for students suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder.
New York Times columnist Marisa Meltzer
recently tried out TM too, and has since incorporated the practice into her daily routine.
What Is Transcendental Meditation?
But what is transcendental meditation, and how is it so successful among nurses, students, and journalists alike? On its most basic level, transcendental meditation is a
“simple mental technique”
in which individuals sit upright with their eyes closed, and the mind focused inward, for at least 20 minutes, twice a day.
Studies discuss
how transcendental meditation is seen as effortless, as it does not require strict concentration, unnatural or unusual postures, or drastic changes in lifestyle. The practice is said to have been
developed by Indian guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi,
and is now taught by the
David Lynch Foundation
in an effort to combat trauma amongst at-risk populations. Meltzer says in her column that transcendental meditation was first introduced in the United States when Yogi taught the practice to The Beatles. Now, it is becoming even more mainstream as a simple and adaptable way to maintain mindfulness.
