LOCALS 427 AND 1306 HOST PINEWOOD DERBY WORKSHOPS

Carpenters Locals 427 and 1306 members and volunteers spent two days in January assisting Boy Scouts and their siblings crafting Pinewood Derby cars from conception through testing. Six stations were set up for each Scout to work through: planning, cutting, shaping, weights, paint, and wheels.

The process took two hours total. “This is such a great event. This was our third annual event held at the JATC. Each year we improve by at least a hundred participants. Everyone is so grateful to attend or participate as a volunteer,” said Chris Merk, Business Representative for North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters.

The workshop was completely free, although a food shelf donation was suggested. Between the two sessions, the Scouts donated 273 food items and $280 in cash to an area food shelf. More than 250 Scouts benefitted from these workshops.

MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR JOURNEYMEN LEADERS

179 NCSRCC members just returned from the first Journeymen Leadership program of the year at the International Training Center.

The UBC actively promotes a constructive culture on the jobsite, where members value and motivate one another to achieve their highest potential and ensure maximum productivity. In this four day course at the  International Training Center in Las Vegas, journeymen develop leadership, mentoring, coaching and communication skills. These journeymen leaders help secure the Brotherhood’s future by learning to engage with newer members and leading by example, all while promoting positive work environments and productivity on the job. Both participants and their supporting contractors benefit by participating in the UBC Journeymen Leadership training program.
