SREC Communications Officers: The First First Responders

At SREC, our Communications Officers (COs) are more than call takers—they are the first first responders, providing lifesaving guidance before emergency personnel arrive. Through Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Training, they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to triage medical emergencies accurately and efficiently, ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients in crisis.

In 2024, SREC handled an incredible 71,477 medical calls, with our COs serving as a lifeline for thousands of callers. To maintain the highest level of service, we rigorously review our performance. Over 2,200 medical calls were reviewed last year, averaging 183 EMD calls per month to ensure quality and accuracy. Our CPR “hands to chest” time averaged 57 seconds, far exceeding the national average of 93 seconds (per IAED).

Behind every emergency call is a trained professional making critical, split-second decisions. Our COs are more than a voice on the other end of the line—they are a lifeline in moments of crisis.
