You don't want to miss this.

I’m honored to have been selected recently by the Rainbow Chamber’s board of directors as your new Chair. I’ll do my best to represent our members and community over the next two years, backed by a team of truly great officers in Vice Chair Devin Strecker, Secretary Jay Stewart and Treasurer Samuel Jones.

Join me in thanking outgoing chair Sara Hanson, who has served the organization for several years as a volunteer, board member and officer. Sara has decided to join the staff of the Rainbow Chamber, so we’ll continue to benefit from her unbounded energy and unique talents.

Of course, June is Pride Month. Almost immediately after the Stonewall uprising in 1969, the word “Pride” was attached to annual celebrations, based on the essential insight that our movement is not just political, but also requires a personal journey.

Be proud of yourself! Feel the joy of community! Take delight in our endless diversity! Pride Month announces that we claim our unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness with self-confidence and love. What a radical idea!

This Pride Month, there are lots of opportunities to engage with other members of the Rainbow Chamber:

  • Our June Pride Mixer is always a special evening of business networking, but this year’s will be especially memorable. Join us on Tuesday, June 16 at 6 PM at MOSAC—the Museum of Science and Curiosity—then stay for a Lady Gaga Laser Light show at their Multiverse Theater. The show combines dazzling laser visuals with a soundtrack packed with Lady Gaga’s biggest hits. Advance registration is required at RainbowChamber.com.

  • If it’s the first week of the month, it must be time for Drag Queen Bingo, June 4 at 7:00 PM at Mango’s, 1930 K St. Drag Queen Bingo supports the Rainbow Chamber Foundation, along with this month’s beneficiary: CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates, which provides critical services for at-risk youth in Sacramento.

  • Sacramento’s Pride Festival will be open along Capitol Mall on Saturday, June 13 from 1 PM to 7 PM and Sunday, June 14 from 12 PM to 5 PM. You can reserve a booth for your business from the organizers (visit SacramentoPride.org), or you can place your business info at the Rainbow Chamber booth. Volunteer to join us at our booth by signing up here.

  • The Pride March steps off at 11 AM on Sunday, June 14 in downtown Sacramento.

  • Join us July 25 for Pride Day at the California State Fair with the Sacramento Rainbow Chamber & Foundation! Enjoy performances by the Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus and Sacramento Cheer Elite, plus Drag Queen Bingo, a disco Tea Dance, and more. Your ticket also includes entry to see KC & The Sunshine Band that evening. Tickets for this event will go on sale soon.

  • Looking ahead to August, on Sunday, August 16, we’re delighted to present Dashin’ Down the Delta, a new 5K Fun Run/Walk at Scott’s Seafood on the River at 4800 Riverside Blvd. The Run/Walk starts at 7:30 AM along the beautiful Sacramento River trail. After, stay at Scott’s Seafood for the included, fabulous Sunday brunch featuring music, merriment, and lots of opportunities to connect. Register at RainbowChamber.com.

  • And, let me plug the Rainbow Chamber Foundation’s Scholarship Program. Applications are open through August 15 in several categories for those enrolled this fall at a college or qualified vocational school. Apply at RainbowChamber.com.

This Pride Month, let’s be sure to gather together, enjoy each other’s company, and laugh a little more than usual.

I’ll look forward to seeing you out there!

With pride,

Thomas Kane
