Dear People of St. Barnabas,
Your delegates to Diocesan Convention have returned and will be offering windows into their convention experience with you in a special mailing next week. As always, it was wonderful to gather with friends and colleagues from across the diocese to learn, share, and attend to convention business.
On this coming Sunday, the Feast of All Saints, we will baptize baby Atlas DeNardi during the 10:30 a.m. service. At both services, we will reaffirm our baptismal vows and remember the baptismal identities we share as members of the Body of Christ. We will also remember those who have gone before us and now claim membership in the great Cloud of Witnesses.
Tuesday is election day. As Kathy Anderson reminded us last Sunday, voting is an act of stewardship as we seek to live our faith in the world. Please know that the church will be open for prayer on Tuesday. Our Book of Common Prayer offers this prayer for an election:
| |
|
Collect For an Election
Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges: Guide the people of the United States in the election of officials and representatives; that, by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (BCP pg. 822)

Pledge appeal season is soon drawing to a close. Please don’t forget to return your pledge cards before Ingathering Sunday, November 8, when pledge cards will be blessed.
Finally, Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend. Don’t forget to turn back your clocks!

| The Bridge at St. Barnabas is a time set apart on Sunday morning that gives attendees from both services opportunities for connection, education, and faith formation. In The Bridge, we find community that nurtures our hearts, minds, and spirits, reminding us that the road is easier when we walk it together. | |
All are invited to join us on Sunday, November 1 to discover how you are part of the larger story of the Communion of Saints. Every part of the Christian tradition has its special people who are looked up to and respected as what a Christian exemplifies. These heroes are called by many different names, saints being one of them. Join Family Ministries Coordinator Etienna Wright at The Bridge, where we’ll develop a larger sense of the saints—living and dead, known and unknown—of which you are one! We’ll also explore who the saints might be in our own lives. All ages are welcome. | While many amongst our St. Barnabas family have engaged in pilgrimages, pilgrimages can take many forms. They don't all require a plane ticket to an exotic land; in fact, there are pilgrim paths on our island! This Bridge will consider what a pilgrimage is, what it isn't, and why it is considered one of the spiritual disciplines. Join us to share your experiences and questions! | | Holy Baptism & The Feast of All Saints
During our liturgy this Sunday, November 1, we will celebrate with the Rite of Holy Baptism (renewal of vows at 8 a.m.) and The Feast of All Saints. During this service, we will welcome the newest member of the Body of Christ at St. Barnabas, while remembering those we love but see no longer by reading their names aloud during the Prayers of the People.
To be sure your loved ones’ names are included, kindly email their names to the church office, info@stbbi.org, or call 206/842-5601.
Please submit your names no later than noon TODAY, Friday, October 30 with All Saints’ Sunday the email subject line.

| Stay Connected Through Realm | |
Last year, St. Barnabas began using Realm software to manage giving. This change has resulted in improvements to giving statements, online giving, and pledge appeal management. Realm has additional functionality as a communications and group management tool, and we are going to roll this out to parishioners in the coming weeks. You will soon receive an invitation to set up your own Realm account, which you can use to access several features, either on the Realm website or with the Realm Connect app:
- View your donation history and pledge progress
- Create and manage online donations
- View an online parish directory and keep your contact information up to date
- Received communications from staff and ministry leaders
You will have complete control over your information in the directory. By default, your contact information will be visible to staff only. When you create an account, you can decide how much information to share with other members through the directory.
If you are a ministry leader, we can create a group for your ministry where you can add/manage members, upload documents and photos, manage schedules, create events, and post messages to the group and individual members.
If you have any questions or concerns, or if you are a ministry leader and would like to create a group in Realm, please contact Niki, nichole@stbbi.org or 617.444.9679.

There will be no Godly Play this Sunday, November 1. Children are invited to join us for the All Saints lesson during The Bridge, and to sit with Mrs. Etienna in reserved pews to witness the Holy Baptism that is to take place during service. Yay!
Godly Play is for children in grades PreK-4 through six.
Older youth are welcome to join as helpers.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the second annual St. Barnabas Trunk-or-Treat last Sunday. We had a great turnout at this event, providing an opportunity for us to open our doors—and trunks—not only to members of our church community, but also to the wider Bainbridge Island and Kitsap County communities.
Guests had a great time filling their bags with candy, playing games, and enjoying dinner together. One of the highlights was the organ demonstration from Music Director & Organist, Sheila Bristow.
We can't wait to do it again next year! Start thinking now about your trunk decor—we need all the cars and candy possible as this event grows! Enjoy some event photos below.

Tuesday Evening Bible Study
Join us for Bible study every other Tuesday! The next session being held is on November 9 in Tierney Parish Hall at 6 p.m. and will focus on the Epistle of James.
The current plan is to meet twice a month, every second and fourth Tuesday, with breaks around Advent, Christmas, and Holy Week. It will be a “come as you’re able” year-round group with some of us taking turns facilitating the discussion. There is a mailing list and if you’d like to be on it, please email Michael Fitzpatrick, m.c.fitzpatrick@outlook.com.
Anyone is welcome to attend our discussions. The group will announce each new topic in the newsletter under the Adult Faith Formation section, so make sure to check here regularly to see what we’re reading and discussing. Please come and join us!

| |
The St. Barnabas Book Club continues to meet on an almost monthly basis, and welcomes all to join in discussions of books that are chosen by the group.
Next month we are meeting on Thursday, November 12 at 1:30 p.m. in Tierney Parish Hall. The book we will discuss is an old classic: Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury. Read it for the first time or read it again, and come share where you find joy in reading!

Vestry Meeting Highlights
October 18, 2026
| |
The October vestry meeting started with a ministry spotlight on the Outreach Ministry. Sue Thompkins, Outreach Ministry Chairperson, outlined the vision she has of
- Encouraging volunteer engagement with local organizations that support marginalized people and
- Increase parish education about the organizations the Outreach Ministry supports both locally and beyond.
It is wonderful that over a dozen organizations are funded through the Outreach Endowment Fund, despite two local groups closing their doors, (Chaplains on the Harbor & Kitsap Homes of Compassion). She was encouraged by the vestry to try new communication tools to heighten parish awareness of their important work.
Rev. Dianne, led the group on reflecting on things both personal and in our parish life that we are grateful for. The positive approach to reflection helped us recognize how fortunate we are both in parish life, but also personally. The break from often seeking or asking more from life was valuable and reinforced how many blessings we already have. Thanks be to God!
A new kitchen agreement with Tim Shelly's Food Bridge kitchen business was approved, contingent on a modest change in wording. The new arrangement will see Tim step down from a staff role as Kitchen Manager and become the sole user of the kitchen, aside from parish related events or Parish Hall renters. The new agreement will solidify our support of Tim's food service outreach mission to nonprofit local organizations like Helpline House, Senior Center, Bainbridge School District, etc. Additionally, coverage of utilities and taxes for kitchen use will be more equitably covered by Tim's business.
Respectfully submitted,
Phil Fergusson

The St. Barnabas Prayer Chain consists of a group of pray-ers who believe in the power of prayer and who devotedly pray for others. If you would like to add someone to the prayer list, or if you would like to join those who receive information about those for whom we pray, email Prayer Chain Coordinator, Drucy Burnet Hodge, drucy15@msn.com. Parishioners remain on the prayer list for one month, non-parishioners for two weeks. The long-term prayer list is periodically reviewed and revised.
