CMG AWARDED DESIGN-BUILD CONTRACT FOR NOSTRAND HOUSES MODERNIZATION PROJECT

The New York City Public Housing Preservation Trust has selected SLSCO LP d/b/a Community Modernization Group (CMG) as the design-build team for the $400M comprehensive renovation of Nostrand Houses in Brooklyn. This historic initiative—benefiting more than 2,200 residents across 1,148 apartments—marks the first major Trust-led redevelopment following resident approval in December 2023.

The project, which focuses on full apartment renovations, environmental hazard removal, infrastructure upgrades, and resident-driven design, reflects a new era of public housing transformation. Supported by extensive community engagement and led by a team with deep expertise in NYCHA modernization, CMG will carry out this multi-year effort under a model that shortens timelines, improves quality, and centers resident input at every phase.

STRENGTHENING CONNECTIONS, DRIVING OPPORTUNITY

Sweet continues to engage with industry leaders across the region through our participation in this year’s Regional Infrastructure Opportunities Summit, NYS Division of Minority and Women's Development Regional Opportunities Expo, and the Competitive Edge Conference. These events provide vital platforms to exchange insights, foster strategic partnerships, and champion equitable growth in public infrastructure. By staying active in these dynamic forums, we’re expanding our network and reinforcing our commitment to innovation, inclusion, and shaping the future of the built environment.

QUEENS BOTANICAL GROUNDBREAKING

The rain couldn't keep us from breaking ground on our new project at the Queens Botanical Garden!

Led collaboratively by SLSCO and Sweet Group and contracted by the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) in partnership with the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, the project includes the construction of two new buildings that will support the Queens Botanical Garden's educational programs and offices.

Sustainability is at the heart of the design, with the project targeting LEED Platinum certification. Key features include green roofs, photovoltaic panels for on-site renewable energy, extensive landscaping to enrich the visitor experience, and seamlessly integrated indoor and outdoor spaces that reflect the Garden’s natural beauty and mission.

We’re honored to be part of a project that promotes environmental stewardship and celebrates innovative, green design.
