In-Depth News, Information And Entertainment

Greetings!

As we settle into November, we’re excited to bring you another edition packed with local updates, community stories, and a few bright moments—literally!

If you were lucky enough to step outside over the weekend, you might have caught a glimpse of the breathtaking Northern Lights dancing across our skies. The rare display painted brilliant shades of pink, green, and purple overhead, giving many in our area a night to remember.

A special thank-you goes out to our very own Patty Holley, who captured the stunning photo featured in this issue. It’s a reminder of just how much beauty there is right here at home—and how wonderful it is to share it with one another.

Enjoy the read, stay warm, and keep looking up—sometimes the best stories are written in the sky.

News Press NOW and KQTV announce partnership amid ongoing local media consolidation

Two longtime pillars of St. Joseph's local news landscape are joining forces as part of a growing trend of consolidation within the industry.

Heartland Media CEO Bob Prather said he believes the partnership is a positive step forward for both organizations. "NPG's values and commitment to local journalism will be a great addition to KQTV's outstanding local news efforts," Prather aid in the release. "Together, we'll be able to continue providing the quality local content that viewer and readers in St. Joseph expect."

Maryville City Council discusses Mozingo updates, relocation of Northwest President's office

Northwest employees who work in the Administration Building are busy packing away their offices as the facility prepares to go offline throughout the year of 2026. This is temporary while a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system is put into place.

This is all a part of the University's

Energy Infrastructure Modernization Project, which has been in the works for many years now. As soon as Dec. 1, Administration Building offices will temporarily relocate to various spaces around campus and nonpermanent office buildings set up in certain parking lots — the president’s office will move to a building located at 720 College Ave., as approved by the Maryville City Council Nov. 10.

Mustangs set season opener for 2026

The St. Joseph Mustangs already have their eyes toward warm weather and long summer evenings at Phil Welch Stadium in 2026.

The reigning MINK League Champs announced that Wednesday, May 27th will be Opening Day for the boys of summer.

St. Joseph downed the Clarinda A's in the best-of-3 league championship series in late July. The Mustangs finished with a 38-and-8 record while winning the organization's 10th MINK title overall.

St. Joseph School Board reverses on its commitment to keep three high schools

Last month, the St. Joseph School District Board of Education unanimously adopted a grassroots plan to preserve all three of the city’s high schools, despite facing enrollment declines and a budget crisis. That plan is no longer.

After promising the St. Joseph School community that it would preserve all three of the city’s high schools and move forward with other cost saving measures, the School District Board of Education has reversed on that commitment and is now, again, looking to close either Lafayette or Benton High School in accordance with two plans proposed by administrators in September.
