Expert Advice: More than 80 high school students and families attended HT's "Ask the Experts" event on Tuesday evening. A panel of admissions officers from Boston College, University of Colorado at Boulder, University of Florida, and University of Tampa provided valuable insights and information and answered questions about the college search, application, and acceptance process. This event was hosted by the College Office and was open to the public.

LOWER SCHOOL INFORMATION

A gentle reminder to be kind and courteous while approaching, entering, and exiting our carlines. We appreciate your help in keeping our children safe and our neighbors happy.

ECH SAFETY DAY SUCCESS!

Last week, excitement filled the air as our Early Childhood students participated in our annual Safety Day, a morning filled with education and admiration for those who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting.

The Melbourne Police and Fire Departments visited the Lower School and spoke about their work in our community, keeping safe when encountering strangers, and fire safety tips.

Our little ones were wide-eyed with joy as they explored police cars and fire trucks, checked out some of their super-cool gear, and learned about how our everyday heroes help keep our community secure.

HT ARTS TAKES TO THE TOWER

Last Friday, 22 of our high school Art and Music students traveled to Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales to take in the beautiful sights and even make some sounds. Percussion students participated in a drumming workshop and all students toured the Olmstead Gardens -- created by famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. -- and enjoyed breathtaking views of the Singing Tower, with its 60-bell Carillon. Bok Tower Gardens is a national historic landmark on the Great Florida Birding Trail.

Each week we feature the great ideas and future-forward thinking taking place inside (and outside) our classrooms. IDEAS that represent:

  • Innovative thinking
  • Design perspective
  • Entrepreneurship (exhibiting entrepreneurial spirit)
  • Applied Solutions (applying scientific knowledge or a taking a research-based approach to a project or assignment)

SUMMER PROGRAM FEATURE:

If you are interested in a career in journalism, writing, communications, or photography, encourage them to apply for the Boston University Summer Journalism Academy, hosted by Boston University College of Communication

For 14 years, our program has trained high schoolers critical skills in news reporting, interviewing, and writing. Our courses are taught by award-winning, working journalists, including Pulitzer Prize winners Lara Salahi and Rochelle Sharpe . Students interested in visual storytelling will learn from veteran photojournalist and The Boston Globe photographer Stephen Haines. Regardless of which program students choose, we challenge them to step outside their comfort zone and experience life as a working journalist.

We offer three courses:

Applications for the on-campus session are due on April 19. Applications for learn-at-home sessions starting June 17, July 1, and July 15 are due on May 10. Students who apply, are accepted, and fully registered by March 8 can save $400 off the full fee for the on-campus academy or $200 off the full fee of the learn-from-home academy. We have limited need-based scholarships and financial aid available to students; students must email us for more information.
