Message From the Director

May 2026 was such a busy month for the Chamber!

Here are the highlights:

*************************************************************************

The Director, President of the Board and several members attended the Derby Party hosted by the Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce! We had a great time and Valerie and Savannah are cooking up some collaborations for next year so stay tuned!

The Carolina Moon Theaters production of "You Can't Get There From Here" was delightful lighthearted entertainment and perfect as the setting was a small town with a pothole issue- IYKYK :) The Chamber is also planning a collaboration with the Carolina Moon Theater so fingers crossed!

On May 14th we had an Ambassadors meeting as well as a Member Meet N Greet at the Hertford Bay Taphouse! Everyone enjoyed connecting with Bryan Wilson, Regional Digital Director of APG to learn more about targeting audiences through digital marketing. We also signed up 3 new members including the the Taphouse and shout out to the Manager, Christina Smith, this month's MVP! We are looking forward to our next Meet N Greet on September 10th at the Tap from 6-7:30pm!

The Town of Winfall hosted Unity Day on May 23rd. The purpose of the day was to re-enact the 1966 Civil rights march lead by students from the Middle School to the Hertford Missionary Baptist Church. The speakers included the Dr. Rev. Bathsheba Ormond, Mayor Preston T. White, Councilman Ron Smirlock, Dr. Tanya Turner and incoming School Superintendent Dr. Shawn Wilson. Special thanks to Sheriff Shelby White, Deputy Leroya Banks, The Town of Winfall Volunteer Fire Department and EMS for supporting the event!

And finally on May 30th, many of us attended the historic Betsy Dowdy rides again at the Nubold White House. Learning about the rich history of Perquimans County in concert with period craftsman and music, and tours of the historic property made for a day well spent! Special thanks to those that planned such a wonderful experience!
