GIVE THE GIFT OF CAMP

Last summer, the YMCA of Fredericton responded to an unprecedented demand for camp support, and summer 2026 is only seeing the demand rise even more.

Families in Fredericton are facing economic pressures and seeking opportunities for their children to stay active, connected and engaged over the summer months.

The YMCA's Gift of Camp Campaign ensures that children are able to access safe, inclusive and enriching summer experiences.

YMCA day camps offer a diverse line-up of programs that include sports, arts, science, and outdoor play for children between the ages of 6 - 15 years old. Moreover, children are given the opportunity to make friends, learn leadership skills and become engaged members of our community, all while they laugh and play.

Already, our community has stepped up to the plate to provide 300 weeks of camp, but there are still families in need. Please give generously to help a kid shine bright this summer!

Who's Who At The Y?

Meet Susan McAllister!

We had a chance to catch up with Susan McAllister from our Y! This photo is from a fund-raising bike ride for the Kingston, Ontario YMCA Strong Kids program.

What do you love about the Y? I love that all are truly welcome at the Y. It is a place where anyone can participate

and be part of the community in a variety of ways. No matter what program(s) in which one is involved, there is kindness, a friendly atmosphere and an openness to sharing friendship, knowledge and encouragement.

What is your position & how did you find yourself working in the field of health and wellness?

My first experience at the Y was participating in youth activities when I was a pre-teen living in Sault Ste. Marie. Since that time, I have been an active member of the Y in many towns and cities. My personal fitness journey began just over 40 years ago at the Belleville YMCA where I completed my group fitness certification.

I am a Certified Personal Trainer through CanFitPro and a certified yoga instructor and have had specific training in pre and post-natal fitness, seniors fitness and I continue my education in various areas of the fitness field.

I have taught at the Y in Belleville, Amherst N.S, Brighton ON, Scarborough, Eastern Ontario Y (Kingston) and now in Fredericton where I teach chair yoga and gentle aquafit and sub for other fitness and aquafit classes when I’m available.

Over the years I have taught step, strength training, kettle bell, boot camp and other assorted group fitness workouts. My passion is encouraging and empowering people on their health and fitness journey.

What makes the YMCA of Fredericton so special?

The Fredericton YMCA is special because of the people. The staff is welcoming and helpful, the members are friendly, fun and comfortable with providing feedback and the facility is well maintained, and safe. The atmosphere is relaxed and communication from the Y to members is exceptional. When I moved to Fredericton 1½ years ago following my retirement, one of the first things I did was contact the Y. I’m glad I did!

Life Jacket Drive

ALL HANDS ON DECK!

COMMUNITY LIFEJACKET DRIVE

We are so excited to share that the YMCA is partnering with The Fredericton Drowning Prevention Coalition and the Fredericton Public Library on an exciting new water safety initiative in Fredericton.

We are leading the charge to launch a LIFEJACKET LENDING PROGRAM in the city and WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are seeking support to help get this program off the ground.

We are hoping that you will consider supporting this initiative by donating lifejackets (Transport Canada Approved) in any size, USED or NEW, or a financial contribution that can be used to purchase lifejackets. Lifejackets can be brought to the Welcome Desk at 570 York Street.

Lifejackets are one of the easiest, most effective tools for drowning prevention and we recognize that all residents of Fredericton should have equitable access to properly fitting lifejackets so they can safely participate in water activities. A community lifejacket lending program through the Public Library will make lifejackets accessible to all Fredericton residents and visitors with a New Brunswick Library Card.

Thank you for supporting water safety and inclusion.
