The Respite for All Foundation continues to welcome new communities into the RFA family – and to help them get ready for opening day.

On the Launching Pad

Our executive director, Daphne Johnston, headed over to Columbus, Georgia, earlier this month to train a new group of volunteers at St. Paul United Methodist Church as they counted down to the opening of Side by Side Respite Ministry on February 7. This week, Daphne is leaving for Brandon, Florida, where she’ll be training a new group of volunteers preparing to open Vitality Respite Community at St. Andrews United Methodist Church. By the time a new respite community opens this spring at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Dunwoody, Georgia, the Respite for All network will have spread to 36 communities in 11 states!

Mentoring Our Ministries

We know that it’s not only important to help the new respite ministries get off to a good start, but we also want to keep supporting the directors that are working hard to operate these life-giving ministries at their locations. This week, thanks to the leadership of two directors from respite ministries in Birmingham, we held a Directors Call via Zoom where 14 directors from across the network joined together to discuss planning for the year. Daphne also made a trip to Macon, Georgia, on Wednesday to work with volunteers at Sanctuary Respite at Forest Hills Church as they reboot with a new director.

Training for Directors and Volunteers

Our annual training conference is going to be packed! That’s both with the wealth of knowledge to be provided by the dementia care trailblazers that will be our presenters and also with attendees coming in from locations extending from Washington state to Central Florida. More than 150 directors and volunteers from 26 cities in 10 states are traveling to First United Methodist-Montgomery to hear Susan McFadden, Ph.D., Elizabeth “Like” Lokon, Ph.D., MGS, Donna Newman-Bluestein and other respite ministry representatives. Our featured speakers are truly excellent and will be pouring out actionable inspiration for our communities to implement, and we can't wait to see everybody!

Save the Date - October 22

Plans are underway for Respite for All's 3rd Annual Brain Science Luncheon, so mark your calendar for Tues., October 22. More details to come!
