D2R’s Lego Your Legos Project

To make it easier for parents/caregivers to forego screens, D2R distributed almost 900 packs of Legos (and a few Duplos) to 8 organizations, including Open Door Care Network, Family Service Society of Yonkers, Daisy Dream Project, Blue Heart Forever Project, WJCS Early Childhood Programs, Westchester Medical Center's Pediatric Residency Outpatient Program, Boston Children's Health Physicians, and HOPE Community Services. A huge thanks to Emily Wells and Lisa Field, who made it happen, shown here with Melani, a Port Chester High School volunteer. We plan to pick it up in the fall. Whether you’re a potential donor, helper or recipient, watch for our announcement.

Moving the Policy Needle

According to the Distraction-Free Schools Policy Project (DFSPP), 16 states have

introduced bills addressing school-issued screen use this year. Now there is more action on EdTech and A.I. In April, the Los Angeles School Board adopted a resolution to limit screen time in the district, particularly for younger students. In May, Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) issued a 10 point action plan that includes eliminating computers until third grade and student-facing A.I. throughout elementary school. The New York State United Teachers Board of Directors quickly passed its own resolution, with Executive Director Melinda Person calling for “developmentally appropriate limits on screen time and artificial intelligence in New York schools — especially for the youngest learners — while affirming that educators, parents and families, not technology companies, should drive decisions about how technology is used in the classroom.” Something is happening here…..

Water Safety Presentation from British Swim School of South Westchester

Where: White Plains Public Library

When: Tuesday, July 21st @ 6:30 PM

Please join us for this interactive water safety presentation recommended for all parents with babies, toddlers, and older children. Water safety is not seasonal — drowning can occur in any body of water.

As summer brings many water activities for children, we want parents to be informed and educated on essential water safety practices so kids can have fun while staying safe around water.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Yen Song at 914-410-6076 yen.song@britishswimschool.com

Proyecto "Lego Your Legos" de D2R
