Cahn Fellowship provides advanced leadership development and recognition in large metropolitan areas to strong, talented school leaders to improve public education.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the LA Cahn Alumni for hosting a wonderful Taquiza celebration to welcome the 2023 Cohort to Los Angeles during the LA Study Summit. The cultural performances by the talented students from Garfield High School, including the vibrant Garfield HS Mariachi and the Danza Azteca, truly made the event unforgettable. A special thank you to Principal Andres Favela, Cahn Alumni 2021, for welcoming us to his school as well as the LA Alumni team, led by Anna Cano Amato, Alumni Program Director, Nidia Castro, Lisa Dach-Orneles, Marcos Hernandez, Kathy Flores, Regina Marquez-Martinez, Cindy Duong, Hillary Herrington, and Gabriel Duran, for making this celebration a resounding success. Thank you, Marco Nava, for your continued support and presence during our summit. Your dedication and efforts have enriched our community and created lasting memories for all.

Thank you to the Japanese American National Museum for graciously hosting our LA study summit. The museum's inspiring atmosphere greatly enriched our experience. A heartfelt thank you to Ann Burroughs, President and CEO of JANM, for sharing her personal leadership journey, which was both enlightening and motivating. We also want to express our special thanks to Coleen Uchida-Tamny and her dedicated team for their exceptional attention to our needs and for ensuring a smooth and successful event.

Cahn Leadership Lab News

In May, our Cahn Leadership Lab (CLL) principal practitioners completed, which includes monthly instruction sessions with Alumni from the Distinguished Principals Program. One of the factors that obstructs early career principals’ ability to maximize their effectiveness is a sense of isolation when dealing with challenges. During this time, they are able to work on challenges together. Cohorts meet monthly for deep dives into topics, some of which are standard and others reflective of the practitioners' needs.

CLL exposes our practitioners to distinguished alumni with a proven track record—people who have been successful as principals and are doing amazing things in their education leadership careers now. We also have professors from Columbia University Teachers College and Morehouse College who lead their first learning sessions and set the tone for our year together. If you know an early career principal who will be in year 3 or 4 next school year, nominations for the Cahn Leadership Lab open in August. Reach out to our program director Crystal Jones for more information at cjones@cahnfellowship.org
