| | | | A local Super Bowl champion returned to his hometown to offer some tips and wisdom to the next generation of football players. Maryville native Jalen Sundell hosted his first youth football camp at the Hound Pound Wednesday night for kids from pre-K through sixth grade. More than 170 campers from every community in Nodaway County, St. Joseph, the Platte City area, Atchison, KS and throughout southwestern Iowa signed up for the chance to learn from the former Spoofhound. | Northwest Missouri State's return to the postseason in 2025 put a spark back in the program. Now they're expected to take another big step this fall. The Bearcats are number 5 in the Lindy's Sports NCAA Division 2 Preseason Top 10. Northwest is the highest team from the MIAA, trailing only Ferris State, Kutztown, Harding and Minnesota State in the national ranking. In John McMenamin's first year leading his alma mater, the Bearcats finished 9-3 with their 32nd MIAA title and 27th appearance in the NCAA Division 2 Playoffs. | The majority of tornadoes this year have blasted through states in the Midwest and Southeast, including Illinois, Missouri, Indiana and Iowa. Tornado activity has been increasing east of the Great Plains in recent decades. The U.S. has had a busy tornado season so far, and the majority of the storms are blasting through the Midwest, east of what’s traditionally thought of as Tornado Alley. Historically, tornadoes have most frequently touched down in the Great Plains, hitting states like Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, but research has found since 1979 that pattern has been shifting. | |
