A Note From Director Fitch

Here were are, nearing the final month of 2022. Tis' the season for shorter days, longer nights, colder weather, and my favorite- giving! Although winter is my least favorite season, I enjoy the season of giving as it brings me joy to see the smile and/or reactions of those I am able to bless with a gift.
For many, this is a difficult and dreadful season. A season filled with memories of those who have departed and who are no longer with us. I understand the pain and grief that many have and will experience. However, grief is complex and full of emotions and feelings that no one but the survivor(s) will experience. I want to remind you that there are many resources available and the journey does not have to be endured alone. Although this is not the desired topic, it is imperative that those who are grieving express their feelings and emotions, in addition, to helping children express theirs. If you are grieving a loss of a loved one, pet, and/or would like to help someone in their journey click here for grief support resources.
"Even if you know what’s coming, you’re never prepared for how it feels." Natalie Standiford
In closing, one of the many things I am grateful for is safety and protection. A special thanks to all Veterans including individuals who are actively serving to enrich our lives every day. I am honored to help read the names of the Illinois POW/MIA soldiers who have served in the Vietnam War at the upcoming Christmas Remembrance Ceremony. This year's ceremony will be special as my late grandfather served in the Vietnam War.
Be kind and enjoy the sunshine.

We were fortunate to have nice weather at this year's City of Springfield's Halloween Safety event. "Tatted up" Mike is indeed a true Abraham Lincoln fan.
|
|
Ten days later, Michael was captured in action at the City of Springfield's Pumpkin Smash.
Michael participated in the many after-hour events and has earned the Oak Ridge Employee of the Month award for his recent volunteerism.
Michael, we appreciate all that you do.

A Note From Operations Coordinator

As we enter the winter season, please use extra caution while driving in the cemetery. Both the roads and sidewalks can become slick very quickly. Please note that we barricade roads when they are not safe to drive on. Also, if you see ice or snow on any of the sidewalks or steps in the cemetery, please do not use them. Pictured above is a sign that we have placed on the sidewalk leading to the walk-in gate. This is a reminder that the gate is closed until March 31.
Thank you and be safe,
Jeff

Have you noticed the signs pictured above as you enter the Monument Aveune entrance? Visitors are informed of the clean-up dates, and the gravesite floral policy, and there is another sign behind it with the cemetery gate hours.
