SOMERVILLE PRIDE

ON DIVISION STREET

June 26th, 7-10 p.m.

St. Martin's will have a table at this Pride event, with information about our church and messages of love and support for our LGBTQ+ youth and elders. We are looking for volunteers to sit at the table. Last year, we were the only church represented at this event, and many of the people who stopped by our table were interested in learning more about our parish.

DISCUSSION OF THE DOCUMENTARY

WILL AND HARPER

On Sunday, June 29, at 12:30 pm, the Church of the Holy Spirit in Lebanon, NJ, will host a discussion of the documentary “Will and Harper,” to be facilitated by the Reverend Ayden Petrone, an ordained Episcopal priest and licensed clinical social worker. The documentary is available on Netflix and should be viewed before the event.

In this 2024 documentary, Will Farrell travels cross-country with his old friend, who has recently come out as a transgender woman. The two engage in open conversations about gender and stereotypes, experiencing a wide range of responses while traveling through different communities. 

Among other things, participants will discuss ways to ensure that we are a welcoming and supportive community and what it means to live out our baptismal covenant to “strive for justice and peace among all people and respect the dignity of every human being."

SUMMER SCHEDULE

There will be no incense on August 17. The summer schedule ends the Sunday after Labor Day.

SUMMER COFFEE HOUR

We need volunteers to host the summer "coffee hour" after church. Everything will be provided for you. You will need to bring it up from the undercroft to the back of the church or porch and clean up afterward.

RECYCLE/REUSE

We are always collecting the following items:

• Shopping Bags
• Empty Pill Bottles with all plastic lids
• Styrofoam (no food containers)
• Yarn
• Unusable pens/markers/pencils
• Kitchen items (no furniture)
• Books

OUTREACH

We will be volunteering for the food bank on the 1st and 3rd weekends in August, for which a sign-up sheet has been placed in the Narthex.

A collection bin for Laundry Love has been placed in the Narthex. We are collecting rolls of quarters, detergent pods, dryer sheets, and small plastic ziplock bags. This collection will be ongoing.

During June, we will collect menstrual hygiene products and new or gently used bras for the organization "I Support Girls." It provides these products to local women, including trans and non-binary ones.

The Food Bank is in great need of food items, paper goods, and toiletries for our neighbors in Somerset County. We especially want to focus on personal items and cleaning products, such as toothpaste, feminine products, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, etc. Cash and checks are also greatly appreciated. There’s always a container on the stairs leading up to the choir loft.
