Veterans Day

This week, Public Works crews are hanging banners along Broadway in recognition of Fairfax Veterans who have honorably served in the United States Armed Forces.

Town Hall Offices closed for Veterans Day

The Town of Fairfax offices will be closed Friday, November 10 in observance of Veterans Day.

24-hour operations will remain in effect for the Police and Fire Departments.

Progress on Housing Element

Fairfax will complete its Housing Element for 2023-2031 later this year. Programs include making land available for new housing, clarifying housing permits, and safeguarding existing housing. Review the draft document on the Town's website now, with more updates coming later this month.

The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the draft EIR on November 16, 2023, and the Town Council will consider adoption on December 13, 2023. For more details and public comment information, visit the Town's website.

Time to Maintain Creeks and Drainage on Your Property

With the rains starting in Fairfax, it's a great time for property owners to ensure their creeks and drainage systems are in good shape. These waterways are crucial for storm drainage and flood control. Property owners should inspect and maintain their creek portions, including clearing debris, vegetation, or other blockages that could hinder water flow.

Sidewalk Improvements Continue, and Draw Attention from Residents

The Town contracted with Precision Concrete to perform shaving work in selected areas to remove vertical offsets and trip hazards as part of a one-time program to improve the safety of the Town’s sidewalks. Since we began this work, the Town has received a significant uptick in inquiries from property owners about the Town’s grant- matching sidewalk repair program.

Porteous Avenue and Scenic Road Repair projects are complete

Crews have completed the finishing touches of resetting manholes and applying street markings along Porteous and Scenic Roads.

The project is now officially wrapped up!

Town Submits Grant Application through TAM

The Town has submitted a grant application through the Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM) from Transportations Fund for Clean Air (TFCA) and Transportation Development Act (TDA). If awarded, the funds will go towards two projects: updating the Bicycle Pedestrian Master Plan and making ADA improvements to curb ramps and sidewalks.

Great Turnout for Drug Take Back Day 

Last month, hundreds of locations throughout California accepted unused prescription drugs, including controlled substances from anyone looking to clean out their medicine cabinets.

In Fairfax, our Police Department collected 5 boxes totaling 32.85 pounds!



Unused or expired drugs can be turned in any time for appropriate disposal. Find a collection near you.

Volunteer at the Fairfax Food Pantry

The Fairfax Food Pantry, located at the Fairfax Community Church, 2398 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. (corner of Manor Drive), is an all-volunteer operation. The Food Pantry needs additional volunteers to help it continue to serve its clients effectively.

Volunteers are needed most Saturdays, any time from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Contact Jack Judkins by email at junkthird@gmail.com, if you can help.

Fairfax Craft Faire

Saturday, December 9 | 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Fairfax Pavilion

The annual Fairfax Craft Faire and Wreathmaking event is held at the Pavilion in the heart of Fairfax on the 2nd Saturday of December each year.

A wonderful selection of crafts, music and bake sales will fill the Pavilion for this wonderful event. We have combined this event with Wreathmaking and Caroling.

Fa La La Fairfax Winter Market—Save the Date!

Downtown Fairfax

The Fairfax Chamber of Commerce will host their first ever Fa La La Fairfax Winter Market event on Friday, December 15 from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. Bolinas Road will be temporarily closed to through-traffic between Elsie and Broadway to allow for safe strolling.

Local shops will be open late for extra holiday shopping and festivities. More details coming soon!

Pre-Apprenticeship Green Workforce Training

MCE is partnering with Marin County, Transportation Authority of Marin, MarinCAN and BayREN to sponsor a cohort of underserved youth to participate in the Next Gen Trades Academy. Next Gen Trades Academy, a pre-apprenticeship program of the LIME Foundation, trains underserved young adults in various construction trades, helping them earn industry safety certifications, and providing 18 months of mentorship and career counseling. The program is free to all participants.

The virtual cohort will introduce young adults ages 18-24 to clean energy trades including:

• Solar
• Heat pump water and space heating
• EV infrastructure
• Energy efficiency
• Battery storage

LIME’s classes will take place from November 11, 2023 - December 9, 2023 with a break for holidays. The full schedule is described below.

• November 11 - 19, 2023: Classes 1-4
• November 20 -26 , 2023: BREAK for Holidays (Study OSHA Safety)
• November 27 - December 9, 2023: Classes 5-10

Electrify Marin Program Updates

Due to high demand for Electrify Marin incentives, rebate amounts for gas-to-electric appliance upgrades have changed effective November 1, 2023. This will allow for more Marin County homes to transition away from fossil fuels. The new rebate amounts are as follows:
