UWGUC partners with FedEx, Northfield Bank,

 Valley Bank, Plainfield Police and

Plainfield Fire Department to feed over 600 families

This Thanksgiving holiday, the United Way of Greater Union County (UWGUC) teamed up with FedEx to close the gap of food insecurity for families living in Greater Union County. The UWGUC and members of FedEx met in the parking lot of Plainfield City Hall to sort and distribute turkeys, roasters, hams, and holiday boxes—all donated by the Community Foodbank of New Jersey (CFBNJ). UWGUC strategically identified distribution sites in Hillside and Rahway for families to pick up their holiday meals along with fresh produce.

“This holiday season, we’re committed to ensuring that families in Greater Union County have access to nutritious meals. We’re incredibly grateful to CFBNJ for their generous donation and to FedEx for stepping up as a key partner in making this possible. Without their support, we wouldn't have been able to reach so many in need. We also deeply appreciate our community partners who help us extend our reach and make a difference for more people,” said Julienne Cherry, President and CEO of UWGUC.

UWGUC also received referrals from the offices of Mayor Raymond Giacobbe and Assemblywoman Linda Carter to ensure that families in need were connected to the holiday meal distribution. “If we’ve learned anything from the challenges we’ve faced this year, it’s that communities come together in times of need,” said Assemblywoman Linda Carter. “I am proud to support initiatives like this one, where our local partners and organizations like UWGUC, FedEx, and CFBNJ are truly making a difference in the lives of families in our community. This collaboration ensures that no one has to go without during the holidays.”

This year, UWGUC had volunteers from Northfield Bank and Valley Bank help with the food distribution. Miguel Carvalho, a representative from Northfield Bank, shared, “It’s an honor to support this incredible initiative and help provide families with the resources they need for a joyful holiday season. Seeing the gratitude from those we serve is truly humbling.”

UWGUC continued their impact by partnering with the Plainfield Police Department and Plainfield Fire Department to distribute an additional 150 turkeys to families in need.

In total, UWGUC’s holiday efforts helped feed more than 600 families across Union County, ensuring that our neighbors could celebrate Thanksgiving with dignity and a nutritious meal.
