School Hours:
Mon – Thurs: 8:25am – 3:00pm
Fri: 8:25am – 12:45pm
| |
In the past three weeks, we have observed that parents are dropping off students at various times between 8:15 am and 8:45 am. While we recognize that occasional delays are unavoidable (due to traffic and other variables), it is important for students to arrive punctually to ensure they can reach their classrooms by the 8:25 start time.
Arriving on time offers numerous advantages, including:
- Fostering positive habits
- Minimizing classroom disruptions
- Alleviating anxiety
- Allowing time to settle in
- Ensuring a smooth transition
- Providing an opportunity to greet teachers and peers
- Enhancing self-esteem
- Allowing time to get organized
- Boosting academic performance
- Offering additional time to prepare for the day
We kindly remind parents that the school day begins at 8:25 am. We encourage you to arrive by 8:15 am, at which point our staff will be present at the gate to welcome students.

Loon lake
"The Pine and Fir class embarked on an eventful three-day camping trip to Loon Lake in Maple Ridge. The students enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities that challenged their skills, fostered teamwork, and created lasting memories.
One of the first activities the group took part in was orienteering. Equipped with maps and compasses, students navigated through the forest, learning how to find their way using natural landmarks and problem-solving strategies. Later, they tried their hand at raft building, working together to construct sturdy rafts from wood and barrels. The highlight of this activity was testing their creations on the lake — plenty of laughter and friendly competition ensued!

For those seeking more thrill, the high ropes course and rock climbing wall were key experiences. Students conquered their fears while scaling walls and walking across ropes high in the air. It was a great chance to encourage each other and celebrate personal achievements.
Archery was another exciting part of the camp, and a special mention goes to Emmett and Jacob, who both hit bullseyes.
After a full day of activities, everyone looked forward to the delicious meals served at the camp. From hearty breakfasts to dinners that satisfied every appetite, the food truly added to the overall experience.
The trip to Loon Lake was a resounding success, filled with adventure, learning, and fun!"

What's happening in Pine Class?
Pine Class students took part in an exciting Science project called Racing Rockets. The challenge was for students to create balloon rockets and race them to see whose rocket would travel the farthest down a fishing line.
To build their rockets, each student carefully blew up a balloon and attached it to a straw threaded onto a fishing line. When they let go of the balloon, the air rushing out caused the balloon to move along the string. The students learned how the force of air inside the balloon pushes it forward, a fun way to understand the idea of thrust and motion.
Students experimented with different balloon sizes, shapes, and amounts of air to see which design would work best. Some balloons zipped quickly down the line, while others took longer to get moving. After several rounds of testing, Logan won the competition with a rocket that went the farthest, showing an excellent grasp of how to balance air pressure and size for maximum distance.
The project not only helped students understand science but also gave them a chance to be creative and work on problem-solving. It was a day full of learning and fun for Pine Class, and everyone is excited to keep exploring new ideas in future projects. Well done, Pine Class!

Open House
On Thursday September 19, 2024, Choice School held their first Open House for this school year.
This was an very successful as many families arrived and were treated to a personal tour of the facilities and programs that Choice School has to offer. The tours were given by some of our students in Pine and Fir classes.
During the Open House, prospective families took the opportunity to chat with current parents, various members of staff, see the classroom resources and discuss possibilities with our principal, Mr. Bolina. Some of the families that toured have already confirmed experience days!

Orange Shirt day
The annual Orange Shirt Day on Tuesday October 1, 2024 opens the door to global conversation on all aspects of Residential Schools. It is an opportunity to create meaningful discussion about the effects of Residential Schools and the legacy they have left behind. A discussion all Canadians can tune into and create bridges with each other for reconciliation. A day for survivors to be reaffirmed that they matter, and so do those that have been affected.
At Choice School, we will be wearing orange on October 1, 2024 in acknowledgement.
On Tuesday October 1, please wear orange in acknowledgement of this.

Choice School gardens
During the summer, the Choice garden has been looked after by many of our parent (and grandparents) volunteers. The volunteers came regularly and helped with watering and weeding the vegetable garden. The result is a beautiful array of flowers and vegetables for us all to enjoy. Even during the month of September, we were able to harvest crops of eggplants, tomatoes, and some herbs.
We thank these volunteers, as without their time and effort, all the vegetables would simply dry out. We also have a great plan to keep this part of Choice School up and running and are looking foreword to start the seeding process all over again in the spring.

Hot Lunch Program
Moving on from the successful hot lunch program last year, we have now partnered up with a local supplier Libby's Kitchen. They will provide daily hot lunches to our students beginning Oct 1, 2024.
If you have not placed your order, please do so directly with this supplier. Lunches will be delivered directly tp the school at our regular lunchtime and distributed to each student by our staff and volunteers. We encourage your feedback on this program in the coming weeks.
As for the cutlery, we will provide this for the first week - thereafter, please ensure that your child has the required cutlery for lunchtimes.
