2025 OCTOBER ISSUE

For the past decade, the CFP Foundation, in partnership with the Orange Bowl Committee and Miami Host Committee, has focused on strengthening education in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. These investments are projected to exceed $10 million by 2026, with initiatives that include transforming more than 40 media centers into modern innovation hubs, building a state-of-the-art STEAM center and learning center at the juvenile correctional facility, and creating new learning opportunities for students.

Miami Loves Teachers has also been launched – a comprehensive initiative designed to support more than 18,000 educators in the South Florida community.

The CFP Foundation believes champions are made in the classroom, which is why the Great Teacher Nomination program shines a spotlight on educators who go above and beyond. Over the past two years, more than 2,600 teachers have been celebrated through weekly social media features, classroom gift cards, and national recognition during Extra Yard for Teachers Week. With nominations open year-round, the program provides students, families, and communities the opportunity to recognize the educators who make a lasting difference.

From surprise school visits to on-field tributes, Extra Yard for Teachers Week once again rallied the college football community to celebrate PK–12 educators nationwide. Held from September 13 to 20, the annual initiative honored hundreds of teachers with special recognitions, social media spotlights, and more than $300,000 in classroom resources provided in partnership with the SONIC Foundation.

Sixth-grade special education teacher Josh Holman and his wife Sarah are finding strength in college football Saturdays, defeating cancer along the way. Since the couple met, ESPN’s College GameDay has been a fixture in their lives, to the point where Josh’s classroom is decorated with show-themed motivation. To kick off Extra Yard for Teachers Week, the College Football Playoff Foundation was thrilled to surprise the Holmans live on College GameDay from Knoxville, Tennessee. The CFP Foundation provided Josh with funds for classroom resources, and the couple have been invited to enjoy the 2026 national championship game. We can't wait to see you in Miami in January!

Lee Corso’s iconic headgear tradition on ESPN’s College GameDay came to a close this fall, marking the end of an era in college football. To celebrate his legacy, the CFP Foundation is honoring Corso with a donation to his alma mater, Miami Jackson Senior High School, and through a unique partnership with the NFL Foundation that is auctioning Corso’s most memorable mascot heads to benefit educators nationwide.
