Schools We Serve

Established in 1927, St. Barnabas Catholic School has been educating children in southwest Philadelphia for almost 100 years. As an Independent Mission School (IMS) since 2014, St. Barnabas supports the whole student - Mind, Body, and Spirit. One of MTM's early partner schools, St. Barnabas has embraced Mindfulness as an integral part of supporting the whole student. We are thrilled to be teaching the 3rd grade students this year. Through MTM’s mindfulness practices, these young learners are equipped with tools to build resilience, enhance focus, and cultivate lifelong well-being.

Teacher and Curriculum Spotlights

Teacher Spotlight -

Liz Seaden

Liz has been with MTM since its inception in 2014 and now serves as the Director of Teacher Training. She has played a pivotal role in our organization's growth, and we deeply appreciate her dedication to teaching and teacher training. She currently teaches 3rd grade at St. Barnabas and 7th graders at G W Carver High School for Engineering and Science, where she guides students in developing inner calm, resilience, and awareness.

Liz shares, "MTM is very close to my heart. I am able to weave together my experience as an elementary school teacher with my love of yoga. I love working with kids and learn as much from them as they do from me."

The Power of Loving-Kindness

In honor of Valentine's Day, our curriculum features a practice called "Loving-Kindness." Loving-Kindness is the practice of cultivating compassion, warmth, and goodwill toward oneself and others. By integrating Loving-Kindness into daily life, children can cultivate a more open heart, reduce stress, and enhance their overall well-being.

Our teachers offer tools to practice Loving-Kindness, such as guided meditations and the "Circle of Kindness," which involves students going around the circle and saying one kind thing about themselves and their neighbor. By planting these seeds, we empower children to grow into compassionate, mindful individuals who contribute to a more caring and peaceful world.
