This week's news

7 candidates vie for 2 open seats on the St. Joseph School Board. The open seats are currently held by Whitney Lanning and Tom Richmond, both of whom decided not to seek reelection after a period of contention and tumult at the district.

Missouri schools watch legislature for potential changes to classroom screen time. As the legislative session opens in Jefferson City, school districts across Missouri are closely watching proposals that could affect classroom instruction, daily operations and funding.

Albany receives $140,000 grant to demolish blighted homes. The grant is part of a state community development block grant aimed at addressing blight in rural communities.

Hy-Vee and FoodHealth partner to introduce the FoodHealth Score. The system rates foods on a scale of 1 to 100, allowing customers to compare nutritional value across products, from packaged items to fresh produce.

Missouri legislature convenes for 2026 session amid low expectations and high tensions. While the first day of the session came and went without incident, Senate Democrats say they're still irate over how the GOP cut off debate last year.

Missouri Lt. Gov. visits Northwest campus ahead of 2026 legislative session. Football, winter weather, and the upcoming legislative session were topics of discussion at a Dec. 18, 2025, meeting of Northwest Missouri State University President lance Tatum and Missouri Lieutenant Governor David Wasinger, who visited the Northwest campus before the state's 2026 legislative session, which begins on Jan. 7.

3 World Cup teams could make Kansas City or Lawrence their base camp. Here's what we know. Kansas City and other World Cup host cities are eagerly waiting to learn where teams will set up their base camps for the 2026 tournament. The locations would serve as a place where teams can practice and train.
