This week: A warm welcome to one of our most recent hires, Bill Oliver. Bill is our new News Director. Next week, we will address our second new hire, Sam Reeves. Until then, here's Bill..

Bill Oliver has returned to his alma mater as News Director for KXCV/KRNW after more than 16 years leading news operations for Bryan Broadcasting in Texas, where he earned multiple industry awards, including the prestigious Charles E. Green Award for Best Radio Reporter.

A 1981 Northwest Missouri State University graduate, Oliver was deeply involved with KXCV and KDLX as a student, hosting music and news programs, calling sports broadcasts, and helping keep the station on the air after the 1979 Administration Building fire. (47 years ago TODAY!)

His career has spanned news, sports, management, operations, and sales at public and commercial radio stations across several states.

Oliver says his return is motivated by a desire to be closer to family and to give back to the university and mentors who helped shape his broadcasting career.

This week's news

Missouri Department of Revenue has announced the closure of the driver's license office in Princeton. The Missouri Department of Revenue says the last day for the Princeton office is Friday, July 31st. Residents in the area are encouraged to go to Bethany, Trenton, or Milan. In the state's news release a reason for the upcoming closure was not presented.

Nodaway County Commissioners unanimously approve a sex-month moratorium on building data centers. The unanimous vote at the commission's July 21st meeting followed 30 minutes of public comments and questions from opponents. Multiple opponents asked what can be done on the proposed data center site during the moratorium. Presiding Commissioner Bill walker said, "They can not move dirt."

Trade talks resumed this week between the United State and Mexico. This occurred during a hearing of the Senate Finance Committee by Iowa Senator Charles Grassley, who questioned U.S. trade representative Jamieson Greer about the possible negative impact to pork producers. Greer said in part that if Mexico takes action on pork, the consequences will be quite challenging given their dependence eon the U.S.

The Buchanan county Fairgrounds hosted its inaugural Barn and Beyond Showcase from July 18-20, giving youth from surrounding counties an opportunity to gain hands-on experience exhibiting livestock. The multiday event welcomed young exhibitors showing poultry, swine, sheep, and cattle while providing a chance to build confidence and develop agricultural skills. Barn and Beyond Committee President Clay Sloan said the showcase helps prepare the next generation of agricultural leaders.

Mosaic Life Care broke ground on a $70 million Heart, Lung and Cancer center in St. Joseph. The three floor, 70,000 square foot center and an on-site parking garage at Fararon and Heartland is designed to deliver a seamless experience to every patient at one location. The center is projected to open in the summer of 2028. You can listen to hear more from Mosaic Vice President, Joey Austin.
