UCP of West Alabama is proud to be part of an exciting new collaboration bringing fresh, locally grown produce to Tuscaloosa City Schools. Through a partnership with DEL-Ray Farms and Tuscaloosa City Schools, romaine lettuce grown right here in our community is now being served in school cafeterias across the city.
This initiative is about more than healthy meals for students — it’s about creating opportunity. Individuals supported by UCP of West Alabama are gaining meaningful, hands-on work experience in food preparation and agricultural processing while contributing to a project that benefits thousands of local children. This partnership reflects our mission to empower people with disabilities to live and work with independence, dignity, and purpose.
Seeing our participants take pride in their work — from harvesting to preparing fresh produce — is a powerful reminder of what inclusion in action looks like. At the same time, students in Tuscaloosa’s city schools are receiving nutritious, locally sourced food that supports wellness and learning.
We are deeply grateful to DEL Farms (Michael and Robert Bray) and Tuscaloosa City Schools for believing in this vision and for investing in both healthy futures and inclusive opportunity. Together, we are growing something truly special for our community.
Life Without Limits — and fresh from the farm.
