Mulmur Faces Heavy Snowfall, Icy Roads, and Towering Snowbanks

High winds and freezing temperatures continue to create challenges on our roads, yet emergency services, school buses, and daily travel must go on. Mulmur’s winding rural roads add to the complexity, but our dedicated team works tirelessly—plowing, salting, and adjusting to the ever-changing conditions.

Mulmur manages six plow routes—three in the northern part of the Township and three in the southern half.

Operating Monday to Friday in two shifts, the team starts work early in the morning and continues late into the evening. The job is physically and mentally demanding, requiring close attention to road conditions, equipment maintenance, and public safety.

How Residents Can Help

  • Avoid parking on road allowances – Vehicles parked on the roadside or in municipal lots obstruct snow removal and may be ticketed and towed.
  • Give plows room to work – Following too closely or attempting to pass a snowplow is dangerous for both drivers and plow operators.
  • Clear snow responsibly – Do not deposit snow onto the road, as this creates hazards and is a punishable offense under the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Stay informed – Check the Township’s website and social media for winter maintenance updates and road conditions.

Emergency Supplies to Keep in Your Car

  • Blankets or sleeping bags
  • Bottled water & non-perishable snacks
  • Flashlight with extra batteries
  • Road flares or reflective triangles
  • Jumper cables
  • Multitool
  • Portable phone charger
  • Ice scraper & snow brush
  • Shovel
  • Tire chains or traction mats
  • Warm clothing & boots
  • Hand warmers

Green Tip of the Month: Switch to LED Bulbs

Switching to LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulbs is one of the easiest and most effective ways to cut energy consumption. Unlike incandescent bulbs, LEDs use up to 75% less energy while providing the same brightness. They also last 25 times longer, reducing replacements and landfill waste.

  • Lower Energy Bills – LEDs use far less electricity, cutting energy costs.
  • Longer Lifespan – Lasting up to 50,000 hours, they far outlive incandescent bulbs.
  • Eco-Friendly – Reduced energy use means lower carbon emissions.
  • Less Heat Emission – LEDs stay cool, making them safer.
  • Versatile Options – Available in various colors, brightness levels, and smart features.

Stop Illegal Dumping in Mulmur!

Illegal dumping isn’t just an eyesore—it’s a crime. Lately, we’ve seen an increase in garbage being dumped along our roadsides, including household waste, tires, construction debris, and even restaurant waste.

This impacts everyone in Dufferin County, as the cost of cleanup comes out of taxpayers' pockets. Let’s put a stop to it!

See Something? Say Something!

If you witness illegal dumping in progress, report it immediately to the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or on their website. Try to note:

  • Vehicle description
  • License plate number
  • Number of occupants & their description
  • Direction of travel

Together, we can keep Mulmur clean and beautiful!
