Intern Feature: Ivonne Ruiz

What kinds of projects have you been helping with during your internship?

I have been at Amani for almost 2 months. I am with the department of Victim Care, and I have been learning a lot about referrals, intakes, and overall, the process of how clients get seen at Amani and how Amani helps them. I’ve been learning more about the courts and the law. I’ve also done some shadowing and cataloging closed cases.

What should community members know about Amani?

They should know that Amani is a place where clients will feel welcomed and understood. That they will not allow a language barrier to interfere with their services and will find a way to communicate with clients. Ivonne is a senior at Purdue Fort Wayne and an intern with the Victim Care Program at Amani Family Services. When she is not working or in school, she enjoys watching her favorite tv shows and reading

Welcoming Fort Wayne Spotlight:

Fort Wayne Museum of Art hosts community-centered exhibition for Día de los Muertos

From October 12 to December 1 Fort Wayne Museum of Art is hosting a community-centered exhibition to celebrate the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, a festive time for remembering deceased loved ones and ancestors.

Artists, families, and community members from across the region have been invited to honor a lost loved one or other important figure by constructing an ofrenda, or memorial altar, in the museum. During Día de los Muertos, ofrendas are places to leave offerings so the souls of the departed might find their way home and be nourished upon their arrival.

You can visit the FWMoA and the Día de los Muertos exhibit 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays; 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Thursdays, and 12-5 p.m. Sundays.

A free Family Celebration will take place on Sunday, November 3 from 2 - 6 p.m.
