A Note From Pat

Winter descends!!!

Because of that, it’s time to remind everyone about our Weather Cancelation policy for Central West L&D IN PERSON trainings.

On any day you are scheduled to attend an in-person training, please note:

IF SCHOOLS ARE CANCELED IN THE TOWN WHERE THE TRAINING IS SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE, THEN THE TRAINING IS CANCELED.

IF SCHOOLS ARE DELAYED IN THE TOWN WHERE THE TRAINING IS SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE, THE TRAINING WILL BE HELD AS SCHEDULED.

School cancelation information is always available on the town’s website by 6am, so check there.

And while we’re on the subject, we have seen an unprecedented increase in the NO SHOW rate in the past 4 months at ONLINE trainings. Please remember that when a class is ONLINE the trainer still has to do all the preparation, including planning activities based on the number of registrations.

Therefore, remember to contact the trainer as soon as you know you will not be in attendance. I know sometimes you register as soon as the Learning Matters comes out, for a training that is 3 months away. It is still up to you to let us know you won’t be attending, so we can perhaps reopen registration for others who were not able to get in due to the registration cap being met.

And finally, as this new year dawns, think about your own professional development and look to your own future. We can help. In addition to our own classes, you will find information within the Learning Matters about other learning opportunities, including the Direct Support Certificate Program, a great way to jumpstart your college career!

  • We have additional offerings that are new in the last 3 months.
  • We will be offering the Leadership and Supervision series that requires you to complete the 3-session Communication series as a prerequisite
  • We will be offering the Supporting People to Lead Sexually Healthy Lives series which requires you to attend 6 prerequisite trainings (7 days)

So, look within our Winter 2025 Learning Matters for information about all our offerings to prepare yourselves to take advantage of these advanced opportunities.

There are also a couple of special offerings you can register for:

  • Nuts and Bolts of Deaf Culture and Sensitivity – in person in Pittsfield and Worcester
  • Supporting Students on Social Media Safety and Self-Advocacy – online

We in the Central West Office of Learning & Development wish you and yours all the best in the coming year and look forward to seeing you in our learning events, as we continue to support you in pursuing your own professional development goals!

HoHoHo! Pat.
